Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

A striker in one of europes top leagues who had a 1 in 3 goal scoring ratio, available for free. It was another fit option to a horrible squad who had 1 premier league striker who hadn’t been fit for at least 2 years.. If the club weren’t so dreadfully mismanaged financially and there were actual down payments to be made Beto would have been a footnote on the transfer target list
I get that I kind of like him despite him not being that good my point is we scouted him that long and never thought maybe he would not fit the way we play. Yes there is a financial reason but regardless of down payments there are strikers in world football that cost less and would have been more suited.

Beto might score a couple more goals, maybe, over the course of a season.

But I’d be fairly confident it wouldn’t translate to more points.

Look at the Bournemouth game for example, Calvert Lewin and Ndiaye on and we looked comfortable.

Doucoure and Beto on we lose 3-2. Beto is just nowhere near the pace of a game, he doesn’t get across his man, he can’t win headers, he’s late in the challenge. He doesn’t know how to make clearances into 50/50 balls. Watch him next time he’s on and you’ll see what I mean.

I do agree he’s probably a better sniffer than DCL though. But so was Beckford and he wasn’t a premier league striker either.

DCL is very good at certain things when he’s on it, stuff that Beto will never be able to do. He’s just not great in front of goal, not a great paradox for a striker.
Rest of the team is set up better, we can win games with Beto upfront and him scoring goals. DCL will be a struggle, he just doesn't take his chances.

Plus, Beto's issues can be improved through coaching - not to make him great, but better. DCL's can't. Whether or not we have a manager who is interested in taking the time with Beto is another matter.

That loss was more due to them having about 5 wingers with pure pace, no longer worrying about N'Diaye, and Tim/Seamus blowing out their arses, whikst Mykolenko decided he would aimlessly storm up the pitch.

maybe Dyche pretended he was interested in evolving? I’ve no idea. I honestly don’t think there would have been many target men who could slot in world football who were available for no money for 12 months. With hindsight and the way Dyche was clearly only ever going to set his teams up, a target man who didn’t score goals would have been preferable… now Dyche has gone though that fabled target man who didn’t score would be just as much of a problem as Beto!

I’ll rephrase. Try understanding the post you are responding to.
Begs the question
Why spend 25 mil on a player whose obvious (only ) strength is running on to balls in the channels then ask him to be a target man and play with your back to goal.

His stats were very good at Udinese and I thought he would do well for us if we played to his strengths rather than think he's another Calvert Lewin.

It's pretty bad recruitment tbh. The lad has never had a run in the team of any note yet Dom can go 15/16 games and never looks like scoring or assisting .
No one will convince me if you give Beto that sort of run he wouldn't have at the very least a few goals & assists.

I pretty much whipped off the predators head in double quick time.

Youre not even giving me a souvenier.

Not sure what can be more clear about my responses which gut your points.

If you say so mate. You think signing Beto for £25 million was a sensible bit of business. You have a weird hard on for Thelwell when he hasnt achieved anything.

I think we are done here.

Wouldnt surprise me with Dyche

You're putting words in my mouth.

Ive never said it was "sensible".

What i have said is that:

A: Thelwell didnt sign Maupay
B: All sorts of caveats around Beto
C: 8 other players signed seem good value

Really bizarre to me why some dont rate him based on his overall signings and value.

Players we have "bought"..

JOB 20m
Ndiaye 18m
Tim 10m
Beto 25m
Chermo 12m
Onana 35m
Dwight 17m
Maupay 12m
Garner 10m
Gana 4m

Currently I make that 70m that could and should have been spent better.
A few more million and that gets you a sigurdson
