Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

And what if they beat us and narrow it to 3 points and Wolves beat Villa this weekend and narrow their gap to 4?

In any case, it wouldn't be a great idea to do nothing even if we win. The three games so far under Moyes we lost against a mediocre Villa, beat a second string Spurs who aren't even playing for their manager and were dominated most of the game by Brighton while we offered hardly any threat.

We cant be making it a virtue to sign no players when we've just lost 2 in one game and when we needed 2 before they got injured.
Davek I agree with you in parts but that cluster tits of Moshiri and Kenwright left a shell of a club stripped of assets and quality while loaded with debt.

I look at when Newcastle got taken over, financially nowhere near our situation especially with FFP, Point Deductions and Stadium costs but Day One, they sorted out the board ASAP then moved Bruce on then added key players in the most wanted positions.

I want us to have 2/3 new faces in to support Moyes and the squad for the remainder of the season but with loans tied up and a reluctance to cancel Broja and Harrison in order to find better players. I just don't see them wanting to spend big money on Thelwell's list because it has been truly poor.

I would trust Moyes more than Thelwell
Whatever that's fine but Moyes will never be 100% in control of transfers as that is just not how clubs work anymore. The work he did here years ago was exactly that, years ago. Player valuations were very different back then and he managed to find a number of good deals that worked out but there were more than a few duffers imo and at West Ham same again some good but also some expensive trash on big wages. I'm of the opinion that if the main candidate that TFG originally wanted becomes available in the summer, don't be surprised if they still want to speak to that person, Moyes staff are all only on short term contracts till the summer which doesn't suggest anything long term and Moyes contract can easily be sorted.

That's just a dumbing down of expectations.

I dont believe we'll see anything other than a single signing in this window.

And this is where Moyes really earns his corn: all of his career at Everton he talked dow the possibility of spending and trophy winning.

Obviously the latter isn't an issue right now, but we have new owners with - apparently - long pockets, but he'll stand guard over their cash for them.

Moyes is all about managing fans as much as about managing a team.
Has to be no less than 2 imo that is a winger and a striker. Is no excuse for me

We don't need Chilwell, Moyes will 'fix' Mykolenko until the end of the season.
Garner and Iroegbunam are on the way back and can replace Mangala.
It's possible we're waiting to see if we beat Leicester on Saturday before signing a striker (or anyone?) in this window?

There are still 2 days of the window left after Saturday so the result of that game maybe says who will come for the last 3.5 months of this season? If we win on Saturday then 2 out of the 3 of Ipswich, Wolves and Leicester would have to win 4 more games than we do of the last 14 (after we've played Liverpool). If we win 1 of 14 they have to win 5 of 14, we win 2 of 14 they have to win 6 of 14 and if we win 3 of our last 14 games two of those three have to win half of their remaining games. That's not going to happen but I hope we get some sort of reinforcements to help out

The thing is, when Moyes came in he was saying we need players in this month. That only gets MORE urgent with the loss of Broja, DCL and Mangala and th news that McNeil will need an op.

It's not a moot judgement call on whether you get best value now or wait till the summer, it's an imperative we get players in. I think most see that, tbf.

We'll run relegation close if we dont get players in now. I realise there are some who are a bit drunk on the last two games and 6 points, but we cant risk running on empty until May.
