Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I would not give up on Broja just yet.
Only recently turned 23 and has had a bad time with injuries which sometimes happens to young players.
However, he is big strong and very athletic.
I am hoping he could turn into a very good player yet.
He was fine the initial first months at Saints but when Ralph changed the system a bit he went missing, he is quite limited imo, we will see. Also he is big and strong but he is NOT a target man/hold up player, he is going to want it at feet.

….hold-up players tend to have the ball played into them. They then have the technical ability to keep hold of it. He looks a decent hold up player to me, less certain about him aerially as a target man.

I think you are making the mistake Thelwell does with strikers, if you think he is going to want long balls thundered up too him then you are mistaken imo.

You obviously have a very good memory Zat. "Not long ago " was about 30 months ago.

Wow time flies doesnt it?

I liked him due to his similarity to Duncan Ferguson in terms of size and power.

Chakvetadze and Larouci at Watford, midfielder and LB respectively, I think Chakvetadze is up there as one of the best players in the league, ball carrying midfielder type, he is 25 but he is a clear level above the vast majority of the Championship, be surprised if Watford keep hold of him. Larouci is quick, 23 and gets up and down the left side. Still like Hackney and obviously there are guys like Rigg, Neill and Bellingham. I could list loads tbh. Try and watch a Watford game if you can, Chakvetadze is class mate, all those Georgians just seem to be so good on the ball.

Not heard of the Watford pair, sounds like there are definitely a few in the championship to keep an eye on.

Still think Neil & Hackney can step up and do well? Starters or more as squad options?

Rigg for me would be the dream. More hope than anything to have a super centre mid for the future.

Yeah i thought Broja and Beto have a similar game in the sense that they would need the ball played ahead of them.

….ha, ha, i’m just saying he’s technically proficient to accept balls played up to him. That doesn’t mean he wants to be isolated, it just means he’s comfortable and capable of keeping a pass played into him.

Being good at holding the ball up and wanting long balls thundering up to you are not the same thing. You don’t have to be an aerially dominant target man to be good at holding the ball up.

Yeah I don't either is any worse/better than Garner but both are still young enough that they can improve. Watford also have a young CB Ryan Andrews, only 20 years old who looks decent and worth keeping an eye on.

Yes I know but he is neither, he has always tended to take the ball at feet when I have seen him previously.

He looks decent at it to me but I’ve not watched loads of him to be fair. I wouldn’t necessarily judge his future performance on what happened at Southampton, he was only about 19 then so consistency issues aren’t exactly surprising, nor is not being an effective target man. I like what I’ve seen of him but injuries and lack of games over the last few years are obviously a concern. He’s one who I think has the ability to be very good, but whether he can put it all together I don’t know.

I think we will have to see if he gets game time but Chelsea want a lot for him and its a huge risk for me.
