Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

No doubt a weird presser, hoping it is a case under-promise and over-deliver. I am thinking that with a win tomorrow and the mindset of team going forward, we will have a better outlook on the kind of players we are trying to sign. It would make sense that we will not be in for Ferguson, maybe Chukwumeka or Dewsbury-Hall, and Igamane or Daka. We should still try our luck in the loan market for some good prospects once we are in a better position. Need to also try for some players coming up for free in the summer like David, Nascimento, and Bardghji.

Yet other top teams spend millions & millions & PSR does not affect them - City are in court now over this issue yet still splash the cash as do United - Chelsea etc Forest etc ... .....
Forest breached PSR and got a deduction last season?

Chelsea haven’t breached PSR - whether you agree with how they’ve got around it or not, the fact is they haven’t

City - part of a much larger case as has been explained countless times.

Why would the club take the risk?

United and Chelsea generate about 4x or 5x what we do commercially, plus have much more astute people in their organizations who can navigate the rules better than we do. City are not up on PSR charges, they are facing charges about inflated/fraudulent sponsorship deals.

Man United. These are 2023 figures but they made nearly £650m in matchday & commercial revenue.
This means their capacity to spend the amount of money on players which they do is unlikely to be hindered by PSR.

So yes - PSR does not affect them, because they make lots and lots and lots and lots of money.

We built a new stadium
We got screwed on that though. It is supposed to be that costs relating to building a stadium are discounted for PSR. During the first year of building the stadium this was allowed, but the premier league, changed their minds after the first year and said that the loans and interest on the loans could not be discounted from PSR. This was worth about £20m a season to us, which isn't enormous in footballing terms, but its significant to us

I think there are a number of trade offs being made by the club and they are looking at what option is the best.

We are limited by PSR. If we push and make a permanent signing, we could be at risk of selling an asset before June 30 for below value. Would we accept potentially losing Branthwaite in June to a club flush with cash (say villa), just to purchase a player now?

The answer might be yes if that player is a long term target. But if someone we want isn’t available do we take that risk for an option C, D or E?

The numbers have got to stack up. It’s not worth it otherwise
