Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Hadn’t seen this. Agree with the sentiment; managers almost never start a conversation about a player unless 99% done. The questions are a waste of time. The window breeds this desperation for info, then they make stuff up anyway.

But this sort of belligerence and very specific criticism of a particular reporter is REALLY embarrassing. Shocking conduct. What an unpleasant demeanor he has when miffed. Would last approximately 4 minutes at Finch Farm before hiding in the bogs.

I genuinely don't see an issue with it to be honest, he's literally just said 'I'm not going to talk about any players who don't play for West Ham and i've said that to you before' and the bloke asks him about another rumour. What's he expecting him to say?!

He obviously wants players, but I doubt too many realists would have been expecting a club with limited resources to make 3 signings. As he aluded to in the presser, if you dont have a lot of money, ideally you dont want to spend it on players you dont really want and may not be what you really need. We may make a loan or two, and it may well be enough to get us through til May.
There are literally thousands upon thousands of players all around the world that would bust a gut to get here.

Moyes from the off said Prem Proven which immediately puts the club in a precocious position.

I would have thought that Moyes would have been made aware of the PSR spending constraints in his very first meeting with TFG.

You'd think from today, that he had been told of them only this morning. Or, that they had come back to him and told him it was even tighter.

I don't know what has changed in the last few weeks apart from the good results and injuries, but the outcome of the number-crunching won't have changed.

Isn't all pretty obvious? We win tomorrow and the need/ pressure to spend millions on players that Moyes doesn't even want is lifted.

If we lose or draw , maybe we bring in a couple of lads and take some risks.

Ideal scenario, win tomorrow, save bulk of transfer kitty for the summer.
Yeah I think you're largely right. If we beat Leics it's a 9 point gap to them, 10 point gap to the bottom 3 (although could be as little as 7 if Ipswich & Wolves both win). Methinks it's not the best plan in the world to hang your transfer plans on the sake of one set of results (worst case scenario we're only 4 points above the drop zone!), but it wouldn't surprise me if the club are waiting to see the outcome of those results before deciding whether to pull the trigger on a deal or two.

Maybe Charlie Adam is on £200k per week.

Moyes coming in and getting 2 wins from 3 out of a group that the last manager told the new owners couldn’t possibly win has almost certainly shifted focus to the longer term. The club has to invest massively in the summer and any precious money being spent now on targets that will be nowhere near first choice would be a huge dent in the summer kitty when far more and far better players would be interested in joining the club. A couple of European loans or free transfers will be our lot. If Thelwell and his team are all getting binned as well would you honestly want to go with their suggestions? The most important thing is to win tomorrow.

Paying Dyche and his folliclely challenged sidekicks £3.5m+ and then having to pay out for Moyes and his staff hasn’t helped either. I think “going with what we haven’t got” could just provide the wettest sheets in GOT history until the end of the season, I’m in.

I think the response is perfectly fine.

The guy is a football coach there to talk about football.
Do managers ever give any info out from these questions....never! Its a pointless ask.

You've explained that very well mate.

We'll go with what we've got then.

Cheers for that.

No but there is obviously very much of a conflict of opinions going on reading between the lines.

Having a DoF with 5 months remaining and no CEO overview, is a horrid situation to be in.

Something has changed over what Moyes was being told 2 weeks ago and now, what is that exactly. Hard to say but clear as day something has.

Will we feel happier if we add some depth in the form of players nowhere near good enough, but at least they are bodies?

Off in the summer then mate

We have to give another set of accounts to the premier league at the end of the season. That's why. It's not as simple as we avoided it now so we're fine.

It is ridiculous, but that's the rules they impose on everyone.
Which I also appreciate, but there has to be some degree of surety regarding our position as it stands? "Not the players we wanted" would suggest some negative movement in the position from the start of the window to now, which doesn't seem like it should be possible.

Well that ‘negative movement’ is the loss of DCL and Mangala necessitating we adapt what we’re looking for.

We've been told for weeks that we have about 10m (up to 40 if you take into account psr and spread of a deal over a contract). That doesn't factor in how we want to structure a deal, which may be a stumbling block for other clubs who want as much up front as possible. That might mean there's only deals to be done for players who clubs are actively trying to get rid of. That is probably what Moyes is alluding to. All guesswork, but we'll find out on Monday.

The upfront shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure the market is not what he wants and our needs have changed since the injuries.
