Everton January transfer window 2021

I still wouldn't do it personally but 6 months on loan is whatever. People are talking about 18 month contracts and that is a bit mad.

Well it seems 6 to 18 months. I mean even 18 month, it's a world away from paying for Zaha at 50mplus and giving him a 4+ year deal.

I suspect any deal for Khedira will be 6 months with an option in the summer for another 12. Thats ok for me.

We also signed Brainthwaite in January, to go alongside Godfrey and Neils. Thats a 17, 19 and 22 year old.

The team we stuck out on Saturday had an average age of 25.

You can see Brands influence is still here, but it is nuanced. It's not just about stockpiling teenagers. When you look where we are in the league, it's hard to argue it hasn't been a success.

As an aside, I could see 1 or 2 younger players, particularly like Nkounkou potentially arriving over the next 2 windows as well. When you see the covid situation in France, which looks particularly bad (as their TV deal hasn't just declined by collapsed) there will likely be all sorts of opportunities. Lucky old Brands made the strategic decision to bin off scouts from the likes of Scanadanavia, Portugal etc and focus more resources in France eh?
I wouldnt bother.

Hes just a mini Zat and would fill the squad with 17 year olds who will never make it in football and then accuse us of ruining their talent.

Everyone is entitled to their views mate! I see where he's coming from, but I suppose I see it a bit differently.

I just see a world where he's terrible like Delph has been and you just kick the can of rebuilding the midfield longer term down the road again except by the time you get back to it Allan is 31 and Doucoure is 29 and you really need fresh bodies.

Ultimately I think Khedira is the kind of pointless signing people get hyped up about because of his CV and not because he has a set of skills that fit this league and our team.

Because I'd rather we signed a player somewhere in the vicinity of his prime and not Sami flipping Khedira I only want teenagers.

FWIW Allan and James both being out with muscle injuries at the same time is the exact thing the makes me worried about signing players like that.

You still pine for Vlasic and think he would be doing bits in our midfield.

He wouldnt.

Age is far less of a factor than injury record, imo. There are plenty of older players who have played at a high level well into their 30s and, likewise, plenty who haven't. If you can get one of the ones who have a good injury record, you're onto a winner. Good, experienced, injury-free players are worth their weight in gold.

A proven Premier League player.

If Vlasic achieves a quarter of what hes done I will be stunned.
I feel like when making your point requires defending the achievements of Gylfi Sigurdsson you've probably taken the wrong stance.

But I'll play anyway. What's he done? Fooled two separate clubs into spending real money for him to ghost around and score some goals?

That's 2 years down the line. The hope would be Davies is 24 and coming into his prime and improving. That Gbamin will have nailed a place down at 26. Maybe Onyango surprises us and is around the team at 19.

As for Khedira, I think the bigger worry is people under estimate the ability of players who get to play for elite teams like Real Madrid for years. We have seen it with James. When hes 35, he will still be easily good enough to get into the team.

It's a short term v long term argument. There needs to be a balance. But we also need to improve in the short term, which we are doing. The owner wants quick success.

Allan had a relatively injury free career. He's yanked his hammy twice in 5 months here. Age is age.
