Everton January transfer window 2021

I get he was only ever signed as cover, but still has turned out to be a weird, weird signing. Didn't appear to be signed as pure GK depth (literally Pickford's back up) but couldn't get a game at all, even Virginia got the league cup game.. then we signed another keeper.
If the rumours of him being on £30k a week are anything like accurate then signing him was a disgraceful decision. You can't bleat about wanting to lower the wage bill and being left with dead wood and then add £30k a week to your outgoings for a third choice keeper.

30k isn't exactly huge in elite football now anyway though (remember its relative). The whole thing is odd. I could understand the logic, he had done well for Huddersfield (tot he point they loaned him back to help them stay up in the Championship). So lets get a semi decent keeper in to cover Pickford. I dont know if he's come in and they've seen him in training and gone 'not up to it, simple as'. He's been happy enough to go out on loan to try and keep his international spot? so it's not as if he's been choosing to stay over going?

Out of all the players we have classed as deadwood, he's not exactly causing a problem with his wage, so it's not exactly bad or good (end of the day each club needs 3 GK's in training so he's still doing a job, he's still helping to train other GK's (by physically doing the training).

It's just a weird, weird situation. We then go and get Olsen, who appeareed to be short-term to give Pickford a rocket up his arse until we had a prime option. Now we are looking to sign Olsen on a full? Which, as a back up he appears to be decent enough (we dont know if he is good enough for top 4/6 as he hasnt bloody played!) The issue with that means that we are likely keeping pickford and not going to bring in a better keeper at any point soon.

ANOTHER branch to this tree is that we have apparently offered a contract to another keeper in Rui Silva from Granada, one who's had a good season last season and on a free, FINE, good idea. Trying to pick up a free player, who's shown potential, for no risk. This is what fans expect of Brands and the scouting team right?

We would then have Pickford, Olsen, Silva, Virgina, Lossl?

I assume Lossl will go asap and Virginia, well, who knows.

£30k is absolutely huge for a third choice keeper who hasn't played a single minute of football mate. It's not huge for your star player, it really is for someone who can only get on the bench when we have 2 keepers.

He wasn't brought in to be 3rd choice though is my point, At the time 30k for a 2nd choice is probably not that uncommon among the higher echelons of the leagues.

IM gonna see if i can do some research and see how it compares to other teams.

That’s not really the point. The point is he turned out to be no better than the 2nd choice we already had and so adding £30k a week to the existing wage bill was stupid when we keep saying we need to bring said wage bill down. It doesn’t really matter what any other club does, I’m simply saying we added more deadwood to the squad and increased our wage bill at a time when our stated aim was to do the opposite. It’s really very simple, if we pay him £3m to turn up to training for 2 years then it’s an abysmal use of resources.

If there is any truth in the Bernard/Olsen swap deal then you'd have to imagine there is at least one attacker coming in
