Everton player you disliked the most

There's some harshness for sure in this thread. I guess it just goes to show that hating on a player is a very personal thing.

I absolutely detested Simon Davis for some reason. Oh yeah, that's it, he was totally gash

back in those depressing days of the 90's when previosusly very good players came to us for a last swansong/paycheck, used to annoy me, for that reason I didnt like GInola or Mark Pubes when they used to play for us. I could never hate Gazza tho and he did put in a few good performances.

I never liked Alan Harper for some reason, I was only about 10 years old, think he just had one of those faces

I reckon Barmby might be number one here if we total up the mentions. Wasn't much fussed about him myself.

Neville must be the most disliked from the players with no kopite-connection.

Barmby only came to us in the first place because Viv Anderson was ploughing his missus.

He's hated because we made his career, got him playing in a regular position on the left hand side, he got back into the England set up & he then immediately shat on us.

Yeah, we ignited his career after it was on a downward spiral and all the verbal crap that came out of his mouth after he signed for that lot made me proper fume.

in terms of goals-ratio, he's the best goalscorer we've had in the last 40 years (if we're not counting Lineker's one-season wonder).

Most under-appreciated player of the last 25 years? I think so.

But then in this thread Neville Southall and Graeme Sharp have also been mentioned...so Cottee's in good company.

I don't question his ability at all.... Just can't stand the man.

No idea why Neville is so hated

He spent his time here showing up to work on time, keeping himself in shape, doing what he was told and not causing any trouble

Yes, his skills deteriorated towards the end, but I don't see why that's grounds to dislike him

He wasn't picking the team FFS

I don't think he used to arrive on time mikey.... He was just so slow that he was still on his way home from the day before

He's far from the only player in the 90's who came good with us, then left for more money and higher league position.

I guess the Liverpool thing just amplified it. But at the time I remembered being quite pleased with how Ablett & Beardsley turned out, so wasn't much fussed about a Beardsley-lite moving in the opposite direction.

I suppose back in the 90's we had so few England internationals that we probably felt we had a special player in Barmby. But I really don't remember him being all that.

What part are you disagree about it - that he's an arse kisser or a limited footballer or that he didn't give a toss about the club?

Can't really think of a counter-argument for any of those points myself.

I think that's harsh personally. Yes he's a United fan & he never hid it, never bothered me personally, as he was a quality captain for us for most of his tenure. On the pitch he went downhill towards the end, but to say he didn't give a toss is plain wrong imo.
