Everton reopen talks with Sam Allardyce

It’s totally different because their squad was absolutely littered with world class talent. We haven’t got a single player that’d get in to the top 6, except maybe Barkley who is on his way out.

The two situations are very, very different.

Yet basically the same squad last season finished 7th by 15 clear points, closer to 6th than 8th?

Can't you see how your view might be ever so slightly hyperbolic when you consider that?

We have a squad decimated by confidence issues and a complete lack of balance due to the spine of our attack in Barkley and Lukaku being ripped out - that doesn't mean the players individually have suddenly went from decent to awful in five months.

Why is that the prerequisite for a manager???

Jose Mourinho at Chelsea took 11 points from their first 12 games and lost his job after losing 9 of 16 games total in mid-December - did Chelsea at that point go "right, time for Pulis or Allardyce, we're in a right scrap here"?

Peoples heads have fallen off. We don't need a "relegation specialist" because all you do is put a plaster on the situation and start a downward spiral, because you establish yourself as a club who needs that kind of manager rather than one that has forward ambition.

It's clear, in all fairness, that we've tried for Silva.

My issue is it has all been too little too late and in the 6 weeks it has now taken to appoint a manager, things have got worse than anyone feared.

I don't want Sam, and it's the fault of the board that it's got to this stage that he seems almost certain to get it.

Dyche should have been our first port of call. Our DOF - who is seemingly becoming more useless by the minute - should have recognised as the main 'football person' in the club with a direct line to Moshiri, that we needed somebody akin to that.

A manager who could sort our team out in terms of discipline, organisation and structure, but at the same time build us going forward (on the pitch and off it).

Instead we've been left with a shambles and everything has - from the outside looking in - ended in a chaotic scramble.

Club that finished high in the league previous season in a relegation scrap by November-December the following season despite having largely the same squad and same manager, sacking said manager after that period of form and looking for a new manager.

Yes, sounds totally different to me...

lol lol lol lol finished high. FINISHED HIGH.

THEY WON THE LEAGUE LADS.

I would imagine allardyce is going to be given a deal beyond this summer but it's total will be less or equal to the supposed £12m we were prepared to give Watford. In the summer Silva will leave Watford and walk straight into the Everton job with allardyce paid off. Lots of money being thrown around but that's how I see it. Of course I could be wrong and allardyce gets us into Europe by the end of the season and he is proclaimed as the new Messiah but I very much doubt it.

Indeed. Which reinforces my point doesn't it?

A much better side to ours were actually worse at the same point in the following season than us right now. Was Hazard and co. deemed not good enough for West Ham or Swansea as a result mate?

No, because that would be insane. Similarly saying the likes of Michael Keane wouldn't get in a West Ham or Swansea team is insane, because he's quite clearly a good player in bad form, like the rest of the team.

It’s not basically the same squad at all. We’ve lost a world class striker who was 2nd top scorer in the league and our only truly creative player. We were lucky that Lukaku never got injured as we had hardly anyone who could actually score a goal. Our whole attack was those two.

The team is clearly short on confidence but other teams have strengthened this summer whereas we’ve got considerably weaker.

Second season Martinez...downed tools; second season Koeman...downed tools; first six matches Unsworth...downed tools...get rid of Jagielka, Williams, Keane, Schneiderlin, Mirallis...they are all cowards and should all be released from their contracts...problem with that is, we do that and we have no backline, but then we didn't really have one to begin with, no?

OK, sell some of them if we can...

How will Sam sort this?

You were trying to say the two situations were comparable because both teams finished high the previous season. But they finished 1st with a load of world class players that all stayed and we finished 7th with one world class player who's now left so they're not even slightly comparable.

Rooney, DCL, Niasse, Mirallas, Siggurdson vs Benteke, Zaha, Puncheon, Townsend vs Carroll, Ayew, Arnautovic, Lanzini

Tough choices here...
I'm not sure they are to be honest. Benteke is a good goalscorer, and Zaha on his day is very good. They tried to sign Niasse, so they obviously don't think he's too bad, and I think it's truly bizarre to suggest that Puncheon and Townsend are better than Rooney and Sigurdsson. Even Lennon and Mirallas are comparable to those players.

We're not a particularly good side, I was saying this in the summer when loads of others were claiming we'd be amazing. I still know we're not a great side, but it seems like all the people who were claiming we'd be ace are now saying we're the worst team in the league. It's really rather strange. In my opinion, a decent manager gets this side midtable pretty easily. I think Koeman would have had us finishing 11th/12th at worse but I thought he should go because that wasn't good enough. I honestly don't think the players are anywhere near as bad as some are making out, but they're being poorly coached and the tactics are dreadful.

This is my main worry, there is no fight in this club. We could have maximus decimus meridius commanding these blobfish and we would still concede at least 2 to Accrington Stanley.

But those are still international players. Are you telling me our squad on paper is one of the 3 worst squads in the league? Because I’m not having that at all because it blatantly isn’t.

Something has undeniably gone badly wrong this year and I’m not sure anyone knows why that is. You can point at a lack of replacement for Lukaku etc etc, but we apparently “won the transfer window” and invested heavily. Keane was sought after and was hugely impressive last season and won an England cap on the back of it.

He now looks like a pub player who has no clue. Why?

Williams was captain of Swansea and Wales and the Swansea supporters were distraught when they lost him. He looks like one of the worst centre halves in our history! Why?

You don’t go from being “dark horses for a top 4 place” to desperately clinging on to PL status in a matter of months. There is enough talent in the squad to be comfortable in mid table at the very least.

The fact is we aren’t. Something has gone horribly wrong and it needs sorting.

But nobody will convince me that Allardyce is the only option to get a tune out of this squad to get us safe. That’s absolutely ridiculous.
Nobody's saying he's the only option. He's just a very low risk option for a club in trouble with an awful lot at stake.

Puncheon and Townsend are far better wingers than Rooney or Gylfi, though :)

Just tell me what BFS actually does..how does he "organise" a defence full of crap like ours. How does he get the piece of p that is Schneiderlin to get off his lazy arse? And Mirrallas? Turd polishing imo. Majority of EFC fans imo do not want him here...its definitely NOT a case of "bandwagoning" .
Because that's his job. You don't need to know how he does it but I suspect hours on the training ground drilling them.

All you need to see is his results and in the position we are in with the managers available who could do this job he's by far the best we can get.
