Nathan Collins is a dud!
Kevin Schade is a dud!
Aaron Hickey has played less games than Nathan Patterson (who incidentally when fit gets picked ahead of him for Scotland)
Keane Lewis Potter has been a dud
The others are 'meh'
KLP and Collins especially looked very good in their previous teams. In fact, Collins looked tremendous.
Youre pointing at the players being young. But you should be comparing their previous teams with their current ones -- for example a defender from a deep defensive side may not adapt to an attacking team using a high line.
That doesnt change with age.
This Vincent Komapmy thing might work in our favour.
Dude managed to convince Burnley to spend 110 million in one window.
Will be interesting to see where he goes.
It’s just the latest shiny ball. It’s embarrassing how it happens every single time. A manager wins a few games and it’s ’why didn’t we get him’ a player has a few decent games and the forum goes into an obsessive mode about it like those consecutive summers when Grealish and Leon Bailey where the only two players in the world that Everton should be targeting.
There’s probably a load of stuff years back melting down about Phillips and Bielsa yet when we’re linked with getting him on a loan only a few seasons later people aren’t interested now.
If Brighton had bought Onana and were selling him to Bayern Munich you’d never hear the end of it on here about how useless Thelwell had been outmanoeuvred etc. It’s honestly just tiresome.
But sure Adam Wharton who has only just nailed down a place in the Palace side and may or may not make his first England squad is better than Onana who will probably end up at Arsenal or Bayern Munich and has captained Belgium.
The reason people dont want Phillips is due to his past 3 years performances on a downward spiral. Theres no comparison to be made from before he went to City.
As for Wharton, he didnt just come through Palace ranks...hes been playing for England youth and in the championship. Clearly Palace bought him as they could see the potential and ability.
I said we should go for him many times. Im not amazed he got in the Palace team and now the England squad.
Hes not better than Onana but would easily be in our 11 over Garner and Gana.
Perhaps he will get future call ups and become a frequent England squad player.
Kilman is 27 and again, in a position of great depth for England. He's nothing special, his ceiling has probably already been reached.
You've picked a player who plays predominantly as a RB and two players that have played the majority of the season as forward midfielders (Foden and Bellingham) as CM options. That's daft. So you're left with Rice/Mainoo/Jones as options for the DM positions which Wharton/Garner operate in.
Wharton is just a better player. It's no sleight on Garner who is also a good midfielder for mid-table clubs but Wharton has that special something that we also see in Branthwaite.
Yes clearly Wharton is better than Garner.
Also with Kilman, even if hes the same level as Branthwaite you'd always select the young player for the player they can become.
I didn't even realize Onana had been here for 2 seasons. Which is not great in itself really...
Unfortunately we couldn't afford Wharton or anyone else regardless. Realistically we need to be spotting players before the cost any real money these days.
We should have gone for him if wed already planned to make sales this summer. Payments could have begun 1st July.
Matches Branthwaite on all the stats and figures this season.
Its so naive to dismiss a player of someone like Kilman from what you are basing it on.........his age!
Was that special when he was messing up against Wolves? getting sent off v Brentford or being held out of the Blackburn team by Taylor Harwood Bellis?
The truth of the fact is Branthwaite has come out of nowhere in the last 12 months, which none of us could of seen or predicted?
How many of you Wharton's had Branthwaite in our starting XI over last summer? (Possibly apart from Zat). you probably wanted us all to go out and sign a Centre Half
When Branthwaite was here before PSV many posters liked him. Just because a kid makes a few mistakes while developing doesnt make him a bad player...
...it just makes you wrong.
Comparing him to Kilman, anyone would pick Branthwaite due to his potential to become levels above Kilman.
Kilman isnt going to improve much if at all in comparison.
It appears like you want experienced players in teams. No matter if they arent as good as the young players (who also may be up/down performance wise).
Experienced players that are good...cost more in fees and wages.
Also they wont contribute to a team gaining places in the league as they dont typically improve season on season. They get worse.
