Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

We have one heck of an amount of dead wood that was brought in for tens of millions and will walk away for free at the end of the season if we still can't get rid of them.

Maupay - £15m
Keane - £25m
Holgate - £2m but absolutely incredible salary for the previous 3-4 years when you consider his utter lack of ability.

Beto not out of contract any time soon but clearly out of favour with the boss and £25m invested in him and probably at least £50k a week.

Keane will have cost the club at least £45m (transfer fee plus wages) by the time he leaves, Holgate between £15-20m, Maupay between £25-30m and Beto's transfer fee is guaranteed at least £20m and he's costing the club at least £2-3m a season in wages.

Just for those players mentioned, that's an outlay of around £110-odd million pounds.

Doucoure clearly isn't deemed dead wood by the manager but I'm sure the club could do with getting rid due to his rumoured £100k plus a week salary. If he walks for free at the end of the season he's cost the club between £45-50m in fees and wages.

For a club in such financial peril, that's both scandalous and dangerous. The inability to actually sell players, going back years now, is absolutely abject and easily the worst in the division by a country mile: Tosun (free, out of contract), Bolasie (free, out of contract), Walcott (free, out of contract), Niasse (free, out of contract), Schneiderin sold at 90% loss, Sigurdsson (free, out of contract), Mina (free, out of contract), Gbamin (free, out of contract), Gomes (free, out of contract), Allan (free, out of contract), Sandro (free, out of contract), Garbutt (free - nobody would go near him due to his incredible wages with us).

We're going to add Keane, Holgate and likely Maupay to that list, abd I fear Beto too. Calvert-Lewin I'm sure the club would like to keep, but he'll probably be added to it as well.

….given his contract situation, his lack of game time and his age, I do think there’s a chance Keane could move on this summer, especially if we sign O’Brien.

Maybe part of the reason he started yesterday.

Stated before, Keane is a very very good pickup on a three year deal for any championship side chasing promotion or for a team like the bottom three were last season as in really short of experience.

If we can recoup say 4-5m for him and remove the 80k wages then we've done well.

Can you see the difference between these two sentences?

‘It would be good to get another fullback or striker in because our backup players in those positions aren’t good enough to cover if we get long term injuries there.’

‘Lashing £17m on a CB when we have no strikers or full-backs is a little scary I can’t lie’

One of them is sensationalist inaccurate rubbish that somehow manages to have a dig at the club for making a signing (in a position we needed) and also invents that we have no players in two other positions (despite having two fullbacks each side and 4 strikers)

The other one actually seems to be the point you’re making in your last post about backups to DCL Coleman and Mykolenko not being good enough which I’d agree with to a point. I’d still argue they’re better backups than Keane and Holgate are so the expenditure on O’Brien is still justified.

What if Everton buy a fullback or striker before the end of the window? This would just be moaning for moaning sake, at least wait until the window is shut.

I mean it’s not. We have actual physical human beings in those positions but since they are completely awful and useless to us why even pretend they exist? We need cover in those areas.

To the last paragraph: until we DO my point still stands. If we sign a CB first we still haven’t signed for the other positions and until we do I’m still correct.

This Rodriquez guy is a centre half who can play left back so if this happens Keane and Holgate can definitely go....

Hes more of a LB that can play CB.

Hes played cb 117 times but 93 of those games came at his last club. So its something hes only transitioned too recently.

When he was at Wolfsburg he was regarded as a top LB but he is now 31 so maybe hes lost the pace needed to play LB.

Regardless inter are after him so I'll be amazed if we sign him.

Id be willing to bet alot of the times at CB were on the left hand side of a back 3.
