Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

There are other players out there to sign though. It's not Phillips or no one.

Any that wouldn't need a transfer fee?

Appreciate there's potential tiny one/with wages - but if they're too high you walk away.

We've got to be pragmatic, we have very little to spend and a lot of places to fill. As you shared;

... sure, we've signed Lindstrom, but we need bodies.

Any player on loan, particularly in CM who can do a job is a good signing.

We should be using all our loan places.

Small margins.

Over the last 3 seasons;

We've averaged 41 points

From 342 points - we've earned 123.

We score 39 per season - an average of 1.03 per game.
We concede 58 per season - an average of 1.53 per game.

Last season we got lucky with injuries.

At the moment, we have 3 deep/centre midfielders.

Flip Lindstrom for Doucoure and its 4 mate.

Though im not sure if i count Tim or not.

Think Dyche would get Phillips back to his best in no time. He's a very good player in very bad form trying to fill in for the best CM in the world with zero confidence. If we can get him on loan, he'd be a very good signing.
Disagree I’m afraid. How many times have we said this before with taking players (loan or transfer) from other premier league clubs who are surplus to requirements and/or are on a downward trajectory?

Most, If not all, fail miserably and are either still at the club or take hundreds of thousands with them.

We’ve been a financial mess for years partly down to deals like this.

If he's in the middle - we're desperately short on wingers.

If Phillips means we can use the cash we have to sign Gnonto or someone else on the wing.

We need a few more in and haven't got the ability to spend so we have to be using loan places IMO.

Think even if you move the Duke moves back - which i think we will, i still think we need a body mate - Gana i dont think gives us 38 games and Doucoure will pick up a muscle injury at some stage - Tim could be anything, but its not fair to ask too much of him - year one.

We defo need a body in there and on the wing.

Im on board with Phillips on loan, my only worry is injuries, think it will go to the end of the window.

This is where we're at given O'Brien signs today/tomorrow.

If we sign that Rodriguez it gives us another LCB/LB as well.

But yes, it's why I'd have preferred money going on a centre mid. I don't trust Gana anymore and Tim is an unknown.

These mids are all available and can't be that pricey - would take any of them over trying to revive a dead horse in Phillips:

Ugochukwu (Linked with a loan)
Ao Tanaka (12 months left)
Senne Lynen (Crap German team)
Habib Keita (French 2nd Division)
Tanner Tessmann (Linked, €7m Inter deal collapsed)
Amir Richardson (Linked, €6m market value)
Lennard Maloney (Crap German team, 12 months left)
Alhasan Yusuf (12 months left)
Jordan James (12 months left)
Mamady Diambou (12 months left)

Go ask Sunderland how much Dan Neil would be, or Hackney at Boro, or Sheaf/Eccles at Coventry.

Just something more out of the box than loaning a really, really crap shadow of Kalvin Phillips.

Don’t think anyone would deny that the squad really needs a quality DM / CM to replace Onana. It’s just that there’s little recent evidence that Phillips still is one.

That's where pragmatism comes in.

After O'Brien, can Everton spend money on a DM/CM?

As well as a winger given we have just 2?

I doubt we can.

I think we can probably afford one more perm and another loan in those positions or two perms depending on structure of the deals. Aside from that I reckon we then try to shift DCL/Maupay/Keane/Holgate or at least get clarity regarding DCL and then fund a ST/Full-back.

But if we are merely talking in terms of budget for a CM, the total for a Phillips loan (loan fee and say 50% of wage) probably isn’t less than the down payment for a 15m permanent signing.

I don’t think we should think of Phillips on loan as the “cheap” option. It would be a significant expense for no guaranteed performance and no potential return.
