Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

boosting Maupay is not a popular thing around here but I agree with this.

He was beyond awful but was not done any favors with the style he was asked to play, and was treated poorly by some fans.

If we can’t find a club for him I would like to see him redeem himself with a couple of well timed goals. It’s possible he could be effective in spots, picking up the scraps from a big target man whether Dom or Beto.

But also would rather play Ndaiye so there’s that.
I agree with this also.

If we can't move him on, then we don't have the luxury of just writing him off as a wage drain. Obviously we can't shoehorn a team and formation to suit him but I'd be looking to see what contribution he can make off the bench, for 15 minutes, more often than not. There are times when we can barely name a full bench. That can't stand when we have players on the rota, albeit not to the quality we'd like. He was a handful at Brighton and seemed up for it.

It most certainly is a two-way street though. He has to train well and stay fit and be match-ready to the extent he can. It seemed his attitude was poor last season and that is completely unacceptable if true. It's primarily on him to work hard and try to get some minutes regularly.

We'll be dragging this until Deadline Day with no plan B just because Dyche wants him
Yep, it's pretty clear that he's a main target. I have huge reservations about it, but his profile as a player (at his best) would suit us. If it happens and it works out you'd have to applaud Dyche and Thelwell for it as most of us would probably swerve this one, but I did listen to Kevin Nolan on Talksport who talked a bit about why it didn't work out for Phillips at West Ham and I do sort of think there's maybe some mitigating circumstances there after hearing it, but it's still a punt IMO

Wonder if he can play right back... 😝

what did he say?

what did he say?
Couple of bits. They threw Phillips straight on which was, in hindsight, a mistake as because of the lack of football he'd had, he was lacking sharpness and they didn't ease him back in. He was in at the deep end and it showed. Secondly his other half had just had a kid and was still up here so his head wasn't right as he was away from his newborn

He's not an amazing finisher but his performances when he first came here were OK and then got worse like I said my opinion is that he struggled with the pressure at a big club not everybody is suited to it. I think the style thing is a bit of a red herring it wasn't ideal for him but he is a better player than he showed here regardless of that. He's an OK striker in the premier league and a good one in the championship but in the second half of that season here he looked like a total chump and he's better than that.

Maupay is not an awful footballer, he is an awful fit for our "style" of play.

He is a premier league (lower level no doubt) footballer, that is fact. If we adapted out style to suit he would certainly score goals but that will not happen.

we lost 1 right back compared to last season is the correct answer.
the fact we played 5 different players at rb last season speaks volumes.
Patterson needs to be loaned out asap.
I'm just saying, all summer people have been demanding a RB, when it was always clear we gave Coleman and Young new contracts for that reason.

8m could have gone towards a new signing, instead we have kicked the can down the road for 12 months.

Agreed, which is why, imo, given what we have, and if necessary, we should be looking to use him sparingly, as a substitute, when we might need something different. I don't see the situation changing, and probably best all round if he goes back out on loan.
