We do need midfielders. But anyway they;re leaving which will leave spaces in the squad and free up wages that we can use to bring others inWe don't actually need to replace any of those 3.

Whether we survive or not, I expect we’ll be recruiting in the EFL this summer as a) we have to reduce our wage bill, b) no right-minded Premier League player will join a club in our state, c) we have to replace our outgoing transfers at a net profit. I actually don’t mind - Moyes was brilliant at this. With Thelwell’s background in youth recruiting, there’s real potential there.
FourFourTwo just released the top 50 EFL players. I’d be looking at Brereton Diaz (one year left) if we sell Richarlison or DCL, John Swift (free) to replace Sigurdsson, Johnstone (free) if Pickford goes, and Dickie for CB. Anyone else to be considered?

i didnt even get that far i saw Joe Allen's name and immediately stopped readingI saw Solanke in 6th and lost all hope
Central defence and central midfield combine to form the spine of the team - without a strong spine the team is doomed. I agree with you 100% that this team needs a new spine.
The top priorities in the summer should be:
1) shift as many high-earning non-contributors from the squad as possible; whilst also
2) sign 2 starting CBs and 2 starting CMs, on the basis that Godfrey and Branthwaite are competing to be the first CB off the bench and Doucoure is CM3 in a 433 with Davies coming off the bench.
We have to cut out enough dead wood to create wage space, and then bring in players who are BETTER than the ones we keep.
I think we will have to take hits on our players.
This is my take if we stay in the prem. just get what we can for Mina,
One of Holgate/Keane. Gomes and Gbamin, maybe Allan from midfield as well, with rumours of lazio being interested at 31 and year left, 10/12mil would be to good to turn down.
I was all for selling iwobi, but maybe he stays if he finishes the season well and Frank wants to play with a number 10. Then what happens to Dele? Kean hopefully the rumour juve want to do the deal a year early comes true. Add in the 4 out of contract players.
Out of that list of 11 only 2/3 have been regulars. Then I’d sell DCL, Richarlison and Pickford if we get good offers.
Then I would look to buy 5 players who walk into the first 11. A GK, CB, CM, Striker, and Wide player. For 20/30mil each Which would probably work out at roughly 50mil on the books next season. You could get a free transfer in one or two positions. Like Sam Johnstone the keeper is out of contract.
Then you try for a few cheaper younger players with potential and maybe a loan or two.
Godfrey & BranthwaiteAnd if the 2 CB’s who replace Keane, Mina and Holgate are injured who plays?
You’re talking about shifting 6 plays and bringing 3 in to what is an already depleted squad.
We have had to play Kenny at CB and Holgate in CM already this season due to lack of numbers.
Mason Holgate?Or more Alan Harper types in your squad. The death of the utility player is a real shame.
That's pretty much the best case scenario, we should aim for that and see how close we can get. For instance if we can only sell two of Mina, Holgate and Keane then we should only look to bring in one starting CB,Out of contract: Kenny, Sigurdsson, Lonergan, Tosun, Delph
Free transfers: Coleman, Rondon
Sales: Mina(£10mil), Keane(£10mil), Holgate(£10mil), Gomes(£5mil), Gbamin(£5mil), Iwobi(£10mil), Allan(£10mil), Virgini(£3.5mil)
...Kean to PSG £25mil to total £88.5mil.
GK: Pickford, Begovic, Tyrer.
LB: Mykolenko, Nkounkou
CB: Branthwaite, ???
CB: Godfrey, ???
RB: Patterson, ???
CM: Doucoure, ???
CM: Davies, ???
AM: Dele, ???
LF: Richarlison, Gray
CF: DCL, ???
RF: Gordon, Dobbin, Townsend
That would be my ideal window of outgoings with a centre back covering right back next season and a wide player covering for attacking midfield.
I'd put everything into 2 new centre backs and 2 new central midfielders along with a centre forward.
If acceptable offers come in for Richarlison, DCL, Gray or Pickford then we sell...replace and add any additional funds to the £88.5mil pot.
The u23s will be a year older and can beef out the squad.
