His match winning return against Bournemouth feels like the lone bright spot in about the past 10 years.

It's all relative.

Niasse, at the time, was the 2nd most expensive signing in our history

A goal every 166 minutes for us. That's better than 1 every other game. Yes he wasn't a fantastic player, but he always gave his all. Considering the wasters we have watched for the last 5 years, some of which barely break a sweat in 90 mins, we have made much worse signings.

And with Bill still involved, I expect us to make further transfers that are worse than Niasse.

Niasse cost 13m, he may not have been good but he actually won us a couple of games.

We have had players cost twice as much and done absolutely nothing. Klaassen, Gbamin, Tosun etc.

He's probably not even in the top 10 of worst pound for pound signings. That's not a compliment to him either!

Don't get me wrong, he isn't out on his own - Bolasie, Sigurdsson, Nyarko, Bilic, Klaassen, Schneiderlin, Tosun etc

You could make arguments for all of them, but on the balance of what I saw on the pitch Niasse takes it for me

The original argument was about Doucore vs Niasse - in the opening half a dozen games of last season Doucoure looked worth every penny we paid for him. Niasse, despite shinning a few in, never ever looked like an actual footballer to me
