I think he’s wasted as a “deep” sitting playmaker. In my opinion, I’d rather play him higher up the park, with a good holding, defensive midfield sitting behind him. I’d want him closer to the attacking midfielders and forwards in the team.
Don't think there's much so far in his fledging career to suggest that he has that in his locker, mind

Gilmour is a talented footballer but obviously lacks physicality to play DM.

You don't need to be 6ft 5 to play DM but you do need to be able to tackle and be aggressive and that's not Gilmours game.

He is technically very good with excellent control and ability to see and execute a pass. Winks but with a higher potential/ ceiling.

In a 3 man midfield he could be very good.

You could play him.with a proper DM and either Doucoure and Allan ( if fit ) as pressers.

Mad to think some people are hoping a lad who couldn't do the business for Norwich will somehow become our midfield maestro. That's how far we have fallen. Being lightweight isn't his only issue.

He played 2 through balls in 24 Premier league games last season. Created 1 big chance and got 1 assist in total from his 1,136 passes (235 backwards passes / 337 forward passes / the rest sideways). He conceded as many penalties as provided assists. He had 18 shots in his 24 games with 33.3% of them on target.

Doucoure's statistics are better in almost every category when breaking it down proportionally. And he still gets a lot of stick on here.

I'd back him if he came to us but he isn't the answer for me. Norwich fans generally hated him and any Google of his name in relation to them is generally negative. So why is he good enough for us?

We're a far cry from NSNO these days.
Would you take Jorginho?

Chelsea are quite light in centre midfield really, so I don't think Gallagher is a goer for us.

I'm predicting both Gilmour and Winks on loan. Gilmour in time to be ineligible for the season opener, and Winks after nobody else tries to pay a fee for him on Deadline Day.

Signing only Gilmour would be too much of a risk, as there's every chance that he won't even get a game, whereas we know Winks is good enough to stink the place out every week.

This is the level we're operating at.
You can’t loan two players from the same club

The stats supplied on here about the direction of his passes need to be read to be believed. People would be tearing their hair out watching a constant movement of the ball backwards and sideways.

He's one of those players that De Boer or one of those other recycling the ball fixated drones love. If that's Lampard's preference we are in for a world of pain here.

I just dont see this happening myself. He's obvioulsy not PL quality.

He’s shown it at times, but by playing him so deep, not often enough. He certainly has the technique and most importantly the brain. What he needs is a manager to help mould him into it. I’m pretty sure if he was in Spain for example, that’s what they’d do with him. Cesc Fabregas type of playmaker

If we are playing a 3-5-2/5-3-2 would having someone like Gilmore who is a deeper lying midfielder be of some use allowing us to play out from the back.

Next to Allan and Doucoure, we might actually have a versatile midfield who would allow our wing backs the freedom to attack.

For the right deal I’d take Gilmour. It was a about a year ago that Chelsea fans wanted him to start every week.

He definitely has something. Which is more than we can say about our current options.

Thing is he was playing with quality at Chelsea. Here he’d be playing with crap. Like at Norwich where he did poor. We need some quality in the centre and it’s not looking likely.

Would you take Jorginho?

All day. Why? Here's why in comparison to Gilmour in 5 more appearances (and minus the goals):

700 more passes
190 more passes forward
4 times as many through balls
6 times as many big chances created
Twice as many interceptions
50% more tackles won

These statistics are much more positive so not sure why we're comparing the two. It's not fair to Gilmour I get that but he's far from his standard and, in my opinion, wouldn't improve us enough to take the gamble.
