If we could get Gilmore it would be a great signing. He’s still the same player that controlled the game v Liverpool in the cup at a young age. He’s just had one under the radar season at a poor team. He’s still a very good player.
Just logged in to look at this. Are people saying he isn't a good player??

Also, have we actually been linked with him?

Agreed. You don’t soar through the Chelsea academy, with all the competition there, to make your debut at 18 without being a really special talent and one mediocre loan (plenty of big name players have had those in the past) doesn’t change that.

Winks? GIlmour? Realistic targets but not particularly inspiring. Winks is no better than Allan and Doucoure, Gilmour struggled at times at Norwich.

Obviously we're not going to be getting the more impressive names we've been linked with - Erikson, Gallagher etc - after the season we've just had, but I'm hoping the DoF and his scouts are doing more than just looking at Spurs' cast-offs, and Chelsea's hopefuls. Perhaps they should be looking at whoever Brighton and Palace are thinking of signing, and making higher bids. Both those clubs seem to be good at picking up bargains, and if Lampard is any good he should be able to do a Potter or Viera on them.

He’s got more technique on the ball than our entire midifeld. Not really bothered about his lack of physicality, it’s not done Doucoure Allan or Gbamin any good when they can barely pass a ball between them (that’s if they’re even on the pitch). Davies Gomes Delph don’t have physicality or technique so he’d be better than all of them as well.

Yes and yes... Lampard´s best mate Matt Law in the Telegraph as well...
Interesting. Gilmour only has 1 year left on his contract, so probably wouldn't cost too much. Think he'd be a good signing for us providing we brought in other midfielders too - as he lacks a bit of physicality.

Would rather Gallagher of the Chelsea kids, but that would be pure pie in the sky.

No my argument was it was a lazy figure thrown out by @CairnsToffee that see all over twitter by Liverpool fans Newcastle fans, you see journalists all over twitter, people like Simon Jordon, Jim white on talkSPORT. Actually I’ve seen the figure 700mil over he last few months.

It depends what you want to include in the figures, yes wages, signing on fees, agent fees. Paying off managers then yes it’s a lot. But the figure that gets thrown out 500mil is basically a figure people think we’ve wasted on players, when the net spend, which seem to work for certain clubs in the media is 240mil, which is basically 40mil a season moshiri has given his managers. Yes a lot has been wasted.

I heard on talkSPORT last week that Liverpool have spent less than Everton over the last 5/6 yrs. but if you include wages and signing in fee’s agent fee’s I’d like a bet they have spent more.
That is the key line here.
One report looking at last season pointed out that we spent 70m in January to only just survive because it it noted Dele's transfer fee as 45million. Completely ignoring that it's an initial 10million fee after 20 appearances and the likely hood of us achieving the sort of targets to trigger any add ons to reach the 45m mark are highly unlikely, but facts don't make good reading.. especially when it comes to Everton. The money we did spend in January was offset by Dignes sale and we spent a grant total 1.5m in the summer on transfer fees. The club has been shambolic and wasted money but we haven't done massive deals for a while now. Even Carlo's time here we spent roughly 20m each on Doucoure, Allan and Godfrey - hardly free spending.
Look at what Villa have spent since returning to the Premierleague... it's obscene! Yes they sold Grealish but they've spent hundreds of millions, are continuing to make 30-40m signings and for what? to finish the season 6 points ahead of us despite us having the worst season in modern memory. I'm not knocking Villa for spending, they currently have the freedom to do it so why shouldn't they but why did we waste millions and they haven't only to be a couple of wins above us this season?
