Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

I'll say this weekly: I have no idea why we haven't gone for Knight at Derby. Even if he's a backup (who is already better than most of our starters), you just know he could be gotten for buttons with Derby's precarious position.

Number of their talents are available on free/cheap deals but so far only Plange (January to Palace) and Ebosele (Udinese) have moved. Bit of a weird one. Unless teams don't want to be seen as cruel asset strippers before they're potentially taken over.

Kind of shrewd signing we need on top of starters, for year's we have had no depth in midfield with players who never play/who are always injured /aren't good enough. Especially with the five sub rule we need more players who can come in and do a job.

Yes I’m sure Frank gave him his debut and he only has a year left, also left footed so would give us a bit of balance in a midfield 3, decent back up With potential for 2/3 mil

I mean, allan was 29 in the season we were talking about. Hardly like he was coming into finch farm on a mobility scooter.

We also had injuries to a significant amount of younger players as well, like we did last season. But he wants to focus on one of the 'older' ones to prove some garbage argument.
Players get hurt in football. If you're going to play that card every time you can basically excuse anything.

I love how the majority of the first 224,000 pages of this thread were dedicated to establishing we can’t sign anyone until we sell and STILL we’ve got the “dO SoMetHiNg EvERtoN!” cryarses out after the window has been open for A WEEK.

But your argument was one, slightly older player when I raised the fact we had a big injury list.

Players do get hurt, but you said the way to avoid a big injury list is to not sign 'ageing players' like Allan. Which clearly isn't the case as even if allan had been fit, we still had a massive injury list.

And that injury list is the reason you seem to think that ancelotti stopped trying and other teams found our weakness. Our weakness were that we had a significant number of players injured and were having to start with midfields of davies, Holgate and the invisible man. One of which has just had 6 months out with a muscle injury despite not being 'ageing'.

We had 5 good games and then were utter crap for long stretches under Carlo. I'm not putting that all down to injuries and I also don't really care enough to argue about it anymore. I firmly believe Ancelotti would have taken this club further into the gutter. He has a positive legacy here among most because he left at the right time and because his successor was a disaster.

Anyway to focus on transfers let's fix the mess of a midfield that is still a mess after Carlo spent big on multiple players to fix it.

All players, like all humans, are ageing, some for the better and some for the worse.

Our biggest miss this season was DCL who was only fit for the first 3 league games and last 3 league games. Godfrey was also out lots, as was Mina, as was Richarlison. These are not old men.

Also Tom Davies was out all season. Maybe not a huge miss but also a younger player who could’ve done a job, certainly more so than putting Holgate CM at times!

Wrong again. Has a good legacy because he took over when we were facing a relegation fight and got us up to 12th and then improved our position again the following season.
