Everton Summer transfers 2021

I honestly don't think I've ever disagreed with a post more in my life. Seriously what are you on about?

Why is seeing someone in a defensive position defending mean it can't be used as a way to see a person's defensive capabilities?

As well as Godfrey played 23 times as a cb for us last season and he did fairly well for a lad in his second season in the Premier league and I cant really think of many mistakes hes made.

I do find it funny reading posts that are trying so hard to be contrarian that you are going after the one player who had such a good season last season that we all fell in love with the lad. He was the one player that we all can universally agree had a good season.

But you've made up your mind and you'll never change it because to change your mind would be to admit you were wrong. So the lad could win the ballon d'Or and you'd still be slating him on here.
Because they're fundamentally different positions?

I've changed my mind before and will do again if there is reason to.

He's definitely in our best XI in my opinion. And when you have young talents you ask for way more than their "worth" because their worth is what it means to the team they play for and how much it costs to replace them
You do realize he's going to turn 24 this year and has played over 150 first team games right?

What if we didn't plan to build a squad of players who can't be expected to stay fit for most games of the season? Playing in the prem at a higher intensity means Coutinho *will* get injured again and with increasing frequency due to his age.

James was worth it on the whole but if we tried to repeat a trick like that every summer we'd end becoming up what West Ham were and to some extent still are, a retirement home for fading star players.

James is going mate I see no harm in effectively swapping James for Coutinho whilst making a profit overall if we could get him on a loan deal.

Yes we could go sign someone younger like Nunes for £18 million instead but Nunes may be crap or not adjust/settle in England.

Ideally you get both and develop Nunes for the future but that depends on what money we have to spend/wages etc.

In terms of transfers we HAVE to address our right back and right wing/forward position especially if we are going to lose James then we need to find someone who can replace him too.
My prediction is we'll buy and sell loads of players but still end up with a right hand side of Coleman and Iwobi. 'cos Everton.

People said that about Rodriguez and he got what 6 goals and 8 assists or something last season?

His injury last season is a worry but if he has overcome it then he's still a good player for this level - if its true it would only be a loan move with an option to buy I see no negatives in that when we have Siggurdsson, Gomes and Delph getting game time last season in midfield.
Spoke to a few Barça fans about this and they reckon he just wants to enjoy playing football again. A loan is a no brainer for me... massive upside and the downside is a few million cost in wages if it doesnt work out.

Hopefully we get both mate - but as a club we really can't be picky at present.

No trophy in 26 years
Barely qualify for Europe these days
Finished 12th, 10th & 8th, 8th in the last 4 seasons.

We could do worse than Coutinho is all im saying particularly if James leaves meaning we have zero creativity in the whole squad.
But sure let's get a player that's on the downside of his career who failed at his "dream move" and we're going to have to work our ass off in order to convince him in order to be able to go there. Sounds like great logic here. Getting an unmotivated player clearly on massive wages in the downturn of his career I don't see anything that could possibly go wrong here.

There's not a world in which we make a profit on anything involving Coutinho

Good proven PL goalscorer for £20 million

We spent £72 million trying to find one in Niasse, Tosun, Sandro & Kean.
And God knows how many millions in wasted wages.

….it’s good and well talking in isolation about Ings but it’s absolutely vital we buy players who fit the system we want to play. The problem with throwing names out is exactly the problem we had with Koeman/Walsh. We bought players with no consideration of a playing strategy.

You nominate Ings. From what I see, Ings is a very clever striker who plays on the shoulder of the last defender and makes very astute runs in behind. He needs players in the top third who can pick him out, somebody like Ward-Prowse or even Rodriguez.

Ings isn’t a counter-attacking striker, if we are hitting teams on the break away from home then he’s not who we want. He’s nowhere near as effective as DCL in his all-around game.

Its important when suggesting a player that a thought process is in place regarding how he’ll fit in the way we play.
