I disagree with this theory that FFP is set up to keep the top clubs where they are and to stop anyone else from joining the top table. That sounds more of a moan from fans as they are jealous they are not at the top. Villa has been a disaster for the last 10 years and that is why we are not up there. Leicester was in the Championship not that long ago and won the PL and are now consistently competing in the top 6 and it was self-destruction that stopped them from getting into the top 4 for the last 2 seasons. Man Utd was PL royalty and by far the biggest team, yet since SAF left they had dropped out of the top 4. It is only in the last couple of years under OGS that they are on the way back. Clubs the size of Everton, Villa, Leeds, Hammers etc are well capable of becoming top 4 if they have strong management and strong recruitment consistently for a good few years. It will not happen overnight as the 'elite' clubs are deservedly ahead of us.

This is all true, but I it’s a bit annoying that ‘big’ clubs barely get a slap on the wrist for something whereas clubs like ours always seem to get hammered. Think only and Everton player and West Ham player have ever been retroactively penalised for diving…it would just never happen to one of the golden boys would it :’)

Elite clubs don't deserve to be ahead of anyone. No one deserves to win anything in football. Entitlement is one of the worst things in football.

FFP is entirely about stopping other teams reaching the top. It is by definition, anti competitive

There was no punishment to these clubs for effectively trying to ruin football and form a breakaway. They deserve nothing.

If it is true what @Theoneandonly posted and he's been told he can leave, Davies is going to sulk around and stink the place out for the season. He won't test himself elsewhere.

clearly you havent been on GOT much lately as @Theoneandonly has got nothing right so far (i name Koulibaly, Perez, Countinho, Rondon) and had no insight in the players we did sign/sell.
As Davies i guess Benitez is the same as previous managers: good squad player, on relative low wage so not the 1st player to sell. But if there would be any good offer for Davies they might consider selling.

Leicester are a rarity.

For most of us, that is a pipe dream. Chelsea, Utd , City and Liverpool can out spend us massively. They can also attract a better standard of player.

Everton, Villa and Leeds are in almost impossible situations. Big clubs, but not Elite. A good season and they get within grasping distance. A bad season and it’s a relegation scrap. Too big for the bottom half, but not enough resources to compete.

Th minute one of those teams gets a good player, they are courted by the top four and CL teams. Lukaku, Arteta, Rooney and Grealish have all moved on. We are destined never to build stable teams.

Elite clubs don't deserve to be ahead of anyone. No one deserves to win anything in football. Entitlement is one of the worst things in football.

FFP is entirely about stopping other teams reaching the top. It is by definition, anti competitive

Imagine the TV companies and UEFA being buzzing when Everton, leicester, villa and West Ham getting into the champions league haha. There all about the money. They want the closed shop so they can generate the income from abroad. FFP is designed to put ruin to all us lot to not take over.

I don't think it was the motivation, but it's definitely a result of that system. Leicester are the only ones getting close and they've had to get everything perfectly right for consecutive years. Chelsea/ United/ City can get signings badly wrong and then just go again the next season with a couple more big(ger) buys.

Deserved sly more like.. I get where your coming from mind... But nothing is deserved, except the money the big six brings in. Your lot have sold your brightest star and your praying it works out for the better. It may do in your case... But don't come on here with your blind optimism... We have sold our best players for years without moving an inch in the right direction with our buys. It's not cricket.. We need to wallow first.

Yeah FFP is set up to prevent teams going into financial turmoil hence why the punishment is point deduction/relegation which will ensure the thing it’s set up to prevent happens…

When was the last time someone outside the ‘big six’ got the champions league? And how many times have clubs done this in the last 10 years?

Leicester have been well run for years, they won the league in a fluke season then bombed out the year after. The last two seasons when supposedly they are boss haven’t come top four.

Your talking [Poor language removed] if you think if Everton, villa, leicester and West Ham are better run they can all get champions league. Not a hope in hell with FFP in place.

Not a pop but I have no idea how you can possibly come to that conclusion. FFP is based upon revenue the club earns. How does the club earn revenue? By winning things and by sponsorships. How does a club get these? By being successful. So if the idea is that you need to win things to earn money but you are prevented winning things because you can't compete with the clubs who are already up in that area, how is a club to compete?

You lot just had to sell Grealish to City to fund your summer signings essentially otherwise you would have fallen afoul of those regulations. How is that fair? Why shouldn't Villa (or us) be allowed to spend what we want as long as the debt is not club owned? It's not a hard thing to "fix" yet nobody who makes the decision (ie: the SOOPER LEEG clubs) has any interest in doing so because it would threaten their place at the table.

It may not be the main focus but it's solidified the status quo.
