Everton Summer transfers 2021

Not sure about that. If we've learned anything from the last few seasons it is the more we spend, the worse we get.
We needed cover for DCL and Richarlson.
We got King and never used him.

We are in exactly the same position now again and haven’t learned a thing.

If anything, even worse, as we need to sell Kean to fix other positions.

If DCL gets injured, which he will at some point, we are bang in trouble.

They sold Mahrez to City as well.

They have accepted that they will sell and build around that model.

We have brought in quite a few older players with not much sell on value. We have changed manager so much that we haven’t got a recognisable strategy and now it is hitting us in the face.

I think Villa have made a better fist of replacing Grealish, but really to challenge the top four they needed to keep him.
I don't think Villa are anywhere near competing for top 4. I think we need another few years of sustained investment to realistically get top 4. That also means that during those years our recruitment has to be spot on and the likes of Baily and Beundia need to work out as Villa hope they do. We are clearly trying to get a Europa spot this season or the following season, I think Ings purchase shows that. He is an 'instant delivery' player and we will not be developing him. We had one excellent player and the rest were either very good or average. We need to build to have 3 to 5 excellent players and the rest very good and much more strength in depth. If we can do that in the next 5 years I expect we will be knocking on the door of top 4

And the same can be said for the rest of the 'big club' but not elite clubs by just changing the names of the players. We have all been shockingly badly managed. Leeds appear to be doing a good job at building their squad and it wouldn't surprise me to see them continue to develop. They have a quality manager and they appear to have a good ownership/management team. Where would Everton be now if Bielsa was appointed manager 5 years ago and given 500m to spend. I suspect Everton would be in the Champions League which is exactly why I believe clubs like ours can get there with the correct management

If Bailey or Buendia work out, they will be taken just like Grealish.

You may get Europa, but it will kill your season. You will have to expand Your squad to cope with the extra games, but it brings in little extra revenue and harms your league position.

I agree it is very difficult but I do see it as a route to the Top 4. That's why I say it needs years of progression to get there. If Bailey or Buendia work out and are pinched by City or Untied then great. It will mean we have improved and moved forward and we will have another 200m to spend on the squad and we can continue to develop and improve the squad.

And that my friend is the issue. Unless your commercial income rockets, (it wont), sustained investment becomes large accounting losses, no matter how rich your owners are. Which is why we have gone from burning £500m in 5 years to a few bob now.

Keep an eye on the contract details of the Jack replacement players, cos that what is killing us.

You have spent circa £300m with, apart from JG, very very little return on outgoings in what, 3 years? That sounds very very familier.

Sadly I suspect he'd be sacked after 10 months and Steve Bruce appointed to give us 'stability'.

Yep, for the model to work we need to be able to sell players at a profit and time will tell if we are able to do that. We haven't really sold anyone for the last 3 years. It has been releasing the old deadwood from contracts. There were a few players bought for 2m and 7m that were sold on at with a small loss but we haven't tried to sell any of our more expensive players yet. But we will definitely need to start selling next summer I think

The Villa model over the last 15 years :)

Its funny, I don't really rate our current manager. I would like to see the club get a more high profile manager but I do see some logic in why the owners are sticking with Smith.
