Fair enough maybe that is over the top, they may never sign. But the truth is it's a symptom of a deeper issue, and rather than addressing our issues we could be bringing in and targeting(apparently) players who aren't good enough, we could be adding to them! We are trying to move on the deadwood to address our financial issues, most of these players will be deadwood within a season if they join.
Look, we are all in the same boat, however, one person posts about longstaff and us turning into Newcastle, then it snowballs and half the forum are going on about it, even though it was made up by some spotty git on Twitter. All it does is create more animosity and all based on fiction. It’s counter productive if anything
Anyway, let’s look forward to actual comings and goings, it’s much more fun

Which one- the ginger one or the taller one?

awful either way, but one is awful and freckly.

Can't say I've seen much of Longstaff so can't really have much of an opinion other than being rather underwhelmed. Though, underwhelmed is the story of the whole preseason.

Another case of low cost player as cover incoming with a high earner outgoing (i.e. Gomes)?

Players who would see a club trying to get itself out of the mire, players who could see real ambition, players who would see a club not willing to tolerate lazy, half hearted and greedy players holding others back. Maybe we would get in some players who would see that if they came to Goodson with the right attitude they wouldn’t be held back by others just marking time collecting big wages and not contributing. Maybe we would get some players who have an eye for success and not the type we attract now. We are like a rest home where players come to take it easy and get well paid. We are a team where you pass the ball sideways or back, where you don’t make lung bursting runs forward or back. We have stagnated and attract stagnant players. Our plan seems to be one of letting contracts run down and then letting players leave, releasing players from their contracts is a way of speeding up the process and hopefully saving a few quid. Let’s have a proactive approach to improving and not this death by a thousand cuts we seem to be engaged in.
Our players who wouldn’t sign because we are who club who consistently changes managers (who have differing football philosophies) and is constantly in court paying out compensation for wrongful dismissal. I’m as frustrated and worried as anyone but your approach is incredibly naïve I’m afraid. Not one player in the world would say “I like their style, the club is badly run from top to bottom, but a player can be sacked for under performing. They’re the club for me!”

I think Longstaff and Rondon are logical predictions of signings though.
Martinez signed Robles, Alcaraz, McCarthy and Kone from his previous club. Koeman signed Martina. Silva got Richarlison and tried for Doucoure. Carlo brought Allan and James. Benitez already has Townsend.

He’s signed Rondon twice and Longstaff had some great games under him. Based on our last 4 signings (I’ll include King), this is the level we are looking at.

I'm pretty sure if the scouts and/or Brands recommended a player, the club would finance it, if not then the DoF position is redundant.

….under the process at Everton, we know the Manager has to endorse any transfers. It‘s also confirmed the Manager can initiate and negotiate deals and there is an indication Moshiri isn’t averse to bring a player in (Tosun).

Brands is on record as saying he won’t bring a player in without Benitez’s approval. Players recommended by the scouting network and Brands are not progressed unless endorsed by others. It’s entirely feasible a Manager blocks most scouting recommendations.

or

or we have a proper scouting department but all their work end up in the archive, because our current manager says: i have worked with James, Allan and Townsend so please sign them.
And Gray was probably a search on wide players with PL experience less than 2 mill GBP under the age of 30 lol

Plenty of room for both type of signings....the manager should be entitled to request a couple of players he knows suits his style of football and can make an impact from Day 1....

Brands role should be, and I assumed had been, to be able to scout young talented players, which help over 3 to 4 years build an improved squad and team for whoever is the manager at that time, and save the owners fortunes in transfer fees (and yes buy young players that we then sell to bigger clubs for a healthy profit)...
