They are underwhelming signings but, playing devil's advocate for a minute, would Rondon offer less than what Kean has for us in his time here or what Josh King did at the back end of last season? I can see the logic of him for a year or so

Longstaff - not sure really. Genuinely haven't watched enough of him to comment, but having read a bit about him in the last day or two it seems like he's capable of playing as a number 6 more than some of the other players we have at the club and Benitez did seem to get some good form out of him. Feels like a bit of a punt though, have to admit.
The issue for me, it screams “guess how we’ll be playing”. No plan B, well there is but it’s the same as Plan A with Rondon up top looking for knock downs or crosses into the box

I wasn’t a fan of King, thought he was massively overrated (mainly by the same people who spout crap on here) but he was under utilised by Ancelotti, and he would have offered something different in some games.

Longstaff is bad IMO; he’s no better than what we have. It’s just screams of another Townsend signing as in a trusted man next to the manager

But that's all well and good with Rondon if he hadn't been playing in China for two years and was on a free. But he has, and he isn't on a free as far as I'm aware. Plus he's 31, 32 in a month, and would want £50k wages.

It's just a bit daft, surely. It's what we're trying to get away from. Short term signings that suit one manager. one of them - Townsend - is okay because he was free, not huge wages and replaces Bernard.

He has a near 1 in 2 record at Juve and PSG. Scored for his country and scored in the CL, but yes he must be a failed gk cos he doesn't score 50 goals from Iwobi insightful passing

….Iwobi’s pass to put Kean in on goal in the Anfield Derby was perhaps the best moment from his time at the club, needless to say Kean pulled his shot wide with only the keeper to beat.

I highly doubt we'll be signing him unless he's on a free. There were a couple of stories about his team wanting to cancel his contract, weren't there? He wouldn't be my first choice, he wouldn't even make my list, but I don't think him playing in China necessarily means he comes here and can't play at the level anymore - Witsel and Carrasco, off the top of my head, came back and seamlessly went back to playing at a high level. I'm not saying for a single moment that he's on their level, I just don't necessarily think the point means anything.

By watching both. Kean can stretch a defense , DcL cannot. Kean needs through balls (see his Florida cup goal) , but we constantly lump the ball up to him like he DCL
Do you mean the goal he got after shooting directly at the keeper? If an opposing striker scored like that for us we would all be calling for Pickford head, not discuss the quality of the forward.

you mean except he's nowhere near as good and has been playing in China for two years?

Mate I'm fully aware that he's been playing in China for the last two years, you don't have to keep saying it.

Haven't once said id have him by the way, just that i can see the logic in signing him on Loan/Short Term deal.

Had he not went to China, id have had him from West Brom/Newcastle or whoever it was he was playing for.

100% agree

not seen anything to make me think Everton overpaid and I think personally I don’t get the hype over him

Untrue, he also currently supports Aston Villa and West Ham.
Unfortunately those clubs are all building a good squad whilst we stand still and have gaping holes in our squad for years on end. Wouldnt surprise me if we fall below Villa this season with West Ham, Leicester, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea all finishing above us. Then we gotta be watching out for the likes of Leeds who pipped us last season.

8th to 12th is my prediction, perfectly mid table mediocrity that the club are building.

I may have said this once or twice before but this club is damned, we arent allowed to be successful, we are just not allowed. Now all the money has caused us to be in an absolute mess which will hamstring this club for years. Its gonna be another long journey, maybe decades before we are back with even any shout of top 4.

Forever in the shadows of our near neighbours, just gotta face it, this is as good as it ever gets for us......
