Everton Summer transfers 2021

Chelsea doing what they're doing from the standpoint of the club is absolutely the right thing. I'm not a Chelsea supporter so I'm not arsed about that. I am a football fan who would like to see Havertz, Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech all play regularly however.

I also am an Everton supporter so my interest aligns with the club's and the club should want to have depth.

I really think that makes sense.

So you cry about a team you don't follow having players you like on the bench but don't have issues with a team you do follow splurging on a bench?

….I’m sure Dyche would be chuffed if he hit the box & scored goals. It’s hard work but it’s what they do. I would want goals from a £30m winger & it sounds like McNeil isn’t that type.

Lets forget about him & start pushing for somebody worth that type of money.

I think he'll prove a lot of people wrong if the club sign him tbh mate.

DCL
Richarlison
Doucoure
Digne (now given set pieces)
Correa/other CF?
Kean?

Thats your source of goals for me - we need more ammunition for our forwards and McNeil provides that - no coincidence that once we started going direct we scored 3 goals (should have been 4 if Iwobi was any good).

We can't get good depth until we are able to offload lots of players. The squad is already far too big with too many players who don't contribute.

Well part of my theory on buying Thuram is he's only depth in the short term. Next summer we'll actually need a striker if we aren't buying one now.

…Doucoure? Digne? Any contribution is a help but they don’t provide the numbers we need & we are too reliant on our strike pair.

Think of when we’ve had success, think of Sheedy/Steven. Not only goalscorers, but big game goalscorers. It’ll make a huge difference if we get wide players who score double figure league goals. It genuinely turns defeats into draws & draws into wins.

Watch football matches & see which wide men get on the end of chances.

The thing for me is still that we don't need to spend 25m to find someone to pump balls in. We got Townsend for free! It's the same thing really.

Richarlison when on form is a 15 goal a season forward mate

DCL is 15-20 if on form

Those two alone if fit and firing are enough to get us into europe everyone else just needs to chip in.

Clubs like WHU/Leeds/Leicester/Arsenal/Spurs/VVilla who are our rivals for europe all largely rely on 1-2 players for goals

This idea that we need 4-5 15 goal a season players in the squad is fanciful we aint competing for the title!

Hopefully he is this term

Correa is no keener to play for us than Kean or James. Big red flag.

We can argue about specific player attributes, target ages etc. but one thing we need to start getting consistently right is buying players who understand what they are getting into (location, squad, manager, role) and who are genuinely excited to join.

If we are lowering the wages we are prepared to pay at the top end as rumoured that might hopefully see a corresponding benefit in this area but eg Kean, Delph are mid-wage in this squad so it is not a solution in itself.

Obviously, putting a bigger emphasis on character and fit does not solve everything eg the missing man, Keane, Gomes have all been generally dedicated, hard-working but just not VFM or good enough.

We have to fix each transfer strategy failing separately but the ‘fit’ one is doable as Moyes largely proved.

Gray and Townsend should be our bench - the fact they’re starting shows how much we need to still strengthen the first XI.
Let’s judge them first. They were amongst our better players last week.

Anyway, I think the idea of starters vs squad players is a little out dated. Unfortunately, it is a concept that we are stuck with because some of our players have been weak. Ideally we would have a deeper squad of players all capable of playing, all interchangeable. Townsend and Gray definitely fall into that category for me.

I’m sorry but how can you possibly know what he thinks?
