Everton Summer transfers 2021

Correa is no keener to play for us than Kean or James. Big red flag.

We can argue about specific player attributes, target ages etc. but one thing we need to start getting consistently right is buying players who understand what they are getting into (location, squad, manager, role) and who are genuinely excited to join.

If we are lowering the wages we are prepared to pay at the top end as rumoured that might hopefully see a corresponding benefit in this area but eg Kean, Delph are mid-wage in this squad so it is not a solution in itself.

Obviously, putting a bigger emphasis on character and fit does not solve everything eg the missing man, Keane, Gomes have all been generally dedicated, hard-working but just not VFM or good enough.

We have to fix each transfer strategy failing separately but the ‘fit’ one is doable as Moyes largely proved.

You don't know if he is keen or not.

Maybe it's a case of if Inter make me an offer I will chose them for obvious reasons, if not I would happily go to Everton.

We won't always be first choice and we can't pick and choose when we believe players want to come to us.

I think with Covid it’s entirely plausible that Pickford and Begovic could have to isolate at some point (presumably being close contacts), so makes sense to have some kind of experienced cover.
Yeah, maybe. I just don't think we give youth a chance at this club. If you're not going to trust the youth system to produce a third choice keeper that in a worst case scenario plays maybe 2 games a season then you can understand why promising youngsters want to knack off and we're left with the Penno's of the world.

Why don’t just keep Virginia as 3rd choice…I wonder.

Talking for months but you mention it as soon as there’s rumours in the media
He's a clever one isn't he.
Lonergan isn't very good either so we would have been no worse off. It is very unlikely that both Pickford and Begovic will be injured/suspended at the same time so the only time our third choice keeper will likely play is if one of them is injured and the other one gets sent off.
Only takes one then who's on the bench match day?

Its been a mystery to me for years. I could understand if we were located in some backwater, football wise, but we aint. That said, Norwich seem to have hit on a system that works pretty well.

If I was Brands/Moshiri, I would be intent on working out why the flow of players is so meh. I think that we all know the answer though.

Definitely, if they are all not good enough then scouting, coaching etc.. of the youth set up needs overhauling. That would mean binning off some of the "boys" though so it won't happen. One thing I will say is that, locally at least, we do have a lot of competition. Only London has a similar density of professional clubs that the NW has but even allowing for that you would expect some youth products making it through to the first team squad.

Norwich isn't afraid to have down years. Not saying going down would be ok for us but finishing 13th and playing youth a lot could be productive. But we always fruitlessly chase Europe. We're doing it again now.

Richarlison when on form is a 15 goal a season forward mate

DCL is 15-20 if on form

Those two alone if fit and firing are enough to get us into europe everyone else just needs to chip in.

Clubs like WHU/Leeds/Leicester/Arsenal/Spurs/VVilla who are our rivals for europe all largely rely on 1-2 players for goals

This idea that we need 4-5 15 goal a season players in the squad is fanciful we aint competing for the title!

….but surely our aim is to get to the next level. Why pay £30m on a winger who doesn’t score many goals when you can get a winger who scores goals for that amount?

United, City, the Reds are where they are because they get goals from wide areas. When we’ve been good we’ve scored goals from wings, it’s not rocket science to suggest it’s a model that works.

We do need to play a system that allows that though if that's the plan. It has to be three in midfield.
