...i think ‘effectiveness‘ is a key attribute. He doesn’t look technically blessed, but he’s certainly the type who could make things happen on the pitch. Direct, fast & extremely powerful, he’d get defenders out of their comfort zone & offer something different.

Accepting he’s not played at top level, he‘s only 20 and is averaging a goal every 2 games.

Do you not think he's similar to simms?
Think signing someone like him would just prove there actually is no pathway for academy players to the 1st team

....I don’t really get this ‘pathway to the first team’. I’m of a view that only the real special ones come through at the top level. We have struggled for back-up striking options, yet Simms made the bench once.

Its about whether the Manager thinks he’s good enough. Perhaps Ancelotti/Brands don’t think Simms is good enough, or perhaps they think he has a chance & will include him next season. Time will tell.

...his physicality, age and ambition would already put him way beyond Niasse in my opinion. He looks like he could have an effective impact off the bench and provide cover.

US footballers tend to be good professionals and raise our profile across the pond. For the figure being bandied about I wouldn’t mind a punt.
Agree it's either someone with potential or someone past their best on big wages for back up striker I am thinking...

Simms will probably sign another contract then go on loan to the Championship for a season if he puts up good numbers then the season after he could be involved in the first team squad, if not he will be sold.

We struggle for options cos we're badly run, we let Kean go and didn't replace him

....I talked about ‘effectiveness’ being a real attribute for a striker, but Kean was very ineffective. I get that we didn’t replace him but he was offering little. To that end, him leaving wasn’t particularly a loss.

What’s interesting is Simms not being used. I can’t see how he could be any worst than Kean so my assumption is Ancelotti didn’t rate him at all.

I don’t know, but I do know that Lukaku would cost far more than we have ever spent on a single player for a position that is not ever in our top three or four requirements.

Pipe dream I’m afraid.
Well I hope im wrong, but I do fear about us being able to get to the next level having the strikers we currently have. So I do hope there is a striker on the shopping list. I actually thought Kean was that player but that didn’t come off, so I hope brands and Carlos have a good one up there sleeves.

I don't think Ancelotti is a manager that will take his time with a youth player and help them develop, could be wrong but seems more a cheque book manager.

I disagree about it being about selling. While we do still have a load of underperforming players to shift, a lot are coming to the end of their contracts and we have just gone through a full season in which we had two keepers in the bench and quite a few times didn't even have a full bench.

We need significant investment this window. I'd say 3-4 first team players, 2-3 squad players and 2-3 young player (by that I mean of the Ben Godfrey ilk - around 10-20mil each).

If we can't do that, the next season is just another transition season.
Oh I didn’t mean to downplay how important the incoming were, but an overrated, bloated squad has been one of the main reasons of our shortcoming recently and that has not gone away. We simply have to keep pushing on outgoings

Plus the effect on morale of having some charlatans on the field of in the squad. Why put in a shift if they don’t.
