Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Yeh, I don't think he'll leave either.

But you say 'for years' like he's been in the team for five seasons. If that were the case I'd agree, but it's literally been three years and really he's been rather good for a lot of that.

He was definitely most effective in his first season when teams also had Pienaar to deal with. Pienaar's link up play and movement gave Barkley space, which is why, yes, I think a no.10 is a great idea - I honestly think Mata would be a very realistic and attainable target.

He started to become in and around the first team at 17/18 though, while i don't judge him on that sort of period, he looked the same player he is now, moments of brilliance but but lacking something, maturity is perhaps the right word.im not expecting him to have perfected his game at the age of 22 but feel sometimes he makes the same mistakes and doesn't quite learn from then. He's had a free role under Martinez with next to no competition.

i rate Mata in the same mould as Silva, but i expected Mata to do more at United, he seems to have been extremely poor, I'd question his hunger.

Exactly that type of player is needed, not only for the benefit of Barkley (and the likes of Dowell and Davies to learn of) but for the whole team.

I've felt we've been missing a silva esque player for years now.

He only had three games mate and then suffered that leg-break.

Yes, I do agree that he needs to learn to stop making the same mistakes, but then again for the last two years we've had a coach who failed to stop making the same mistakes.

Hopefully now we have a manager who learns and adapts, then we will start to see that rub off on the players as well.

And yeh agree we need a no.10 - have done since Pienaar got old and injury prone, really, and possibly even before that from when Arteta got injured back in 2009 (up until that point, he was one of the best midfielders in the Prem for about two years - behind maybe only Fabregas as far as actual playmakers went - he was just outstanding).

Mata's actually done okay but I think he's a player that needs the team almost building around him in a way - like most players in that mould do. He had that at Chelsea until Mourinho arrived, and he had that in his first half season at United under Moyes. Think that's the key. He'd be a real possibility of a proven 'quality' player I talked about who could push us to the next level.

So all the tv money coming into the prem is a myth then?

Fair enough, the lad may not want to move to the prem or he might not be able to handle the physicality of it but as far as I'm concerned, this is the level of player I would like us to be linked with...especially given his age...

@BlueToff

No it's not a myth, but it's actually no where near some of the figures that's been touted - as in, the TV money will factor in little for our transfer business. @MoutsGoat can tell you more about that than I can...

Right, he's only 30. That's prime for a centre back. He's a top quality player (literally, one of the best on the world at the moment), and has two or three years left in him at that level most likely.

You can 'like us' to be linked with whomever you'd like mate, we all can. But there's that and then there's being realistic. I coul ddefinitely see us making a move for a 'high profile' player, but it won't be that level, unfortunatley. Hopefully it won't be too long until we can realistically be linked.

Name me a top quality centre back who you think we could realistically get and for f***sake don't mention Ryan Shawcross..

Because I think we need one as a matter of urgency...

If Arsenal get in an expensive new striker, and Rom does leave, how about Giroud? Pretty consistent, 20+ goals per season striker

People might laugh at this but Koeman does like to have a classic number 9 in the team with good link up and aerial play.

I don't see it happening tbf but as a style of player I think he'd fit well.

He's got such a punchable face though.

Honestly tho, its gonna be boss this window, the rags will link us to all sorts, the good, the bad and the very ugly, peoples heads will be falling off all over the place, im prolly gonna spend most of it laughing at some of the names we get linked with, but from this comment by Mr Fox today, we should all be very excited, so if bluelad wants Godin, lets fing get Godin.

"was told tonight his list of targets , Dont know how true it is ,but theres some big names on it if true .was speaking to WRD hes heard the same as so sounds good"

Everton arent we?
