Everton Transfer Thread 2016

I'd go as far to say Italy are the best football set up in world football. Always succesful, no matter how many world class players there are or aren't. 4 world cups isn't it? One less than Brazil and the fact they are solid and always have a hard to beat persona about them is great to see

Just shows the importance of building a team rather than a collection of expensive signings or 'hype' players.

Big fan of De Rossi.

Love the attitude and passion of the Italians in general.

Really enjoyed seeing them beat Belgium the other night - players well into the twilight/latter stages of their careers such as De Rossi, Buffon, Chiellini, Bonucci etc singing the anthem with gusto and using all their experience to get a result. Great to see.
They were magnificent...all of them. I loved to see nearly every passed ball was going forwards. Also when defending they literally harried around till it was back in possesion. Terrific side and my secret favs for the competition now .

People who are judging Witsel purely on how he plays for Belgium are missing a lot of what he does IMO, Wilmotts is an absolutely dreadful coach who seems to have the Martinez obsession with always playing two defensive mids no matter what - see him doing so even at 1-0 down against Italy with 15 mins left, madness.

Witsel is the type whose more than able to play that role by himself in a game and dominate in the role, allowing the other centre mids more reign to go forward, if he's paired up with a more defensive player then it allows him to get forward a bit more as well and he has the engine to do that box to box role whilst still being defensively sound and providing cover. Next time Belgium play take a close watch at how often he's the one spreading the ball out to the likes of De Bruyne, Hazzard etc though as more often than not he is the one starting the Belgium moves forward.

Never seen Mccarthy control a game the same way Witsel can and does with regularity, under a manager like Koeman who likes a big physically imposing player int he middle - think we'd see the best of him as well

Agree on that mate - but in fairness I don't think McCarthy is or ever will be that player. He can be the 'box to box' player, but in more that he can make tidy passes and good third man runs (which he always does when he's provided goals/assists/a threat going forward.

I think RK will play a variant of 4-3-3/4-1-4-1 if indeed he is looking for a 'dominating' CM.

Told a month ago by a usually good industry source that Stones was 99.9% certain to go to City. I think we'll certainly be in the market for a no-nonsense PL style CB.

I think it's common sense to think City will/will be in for him.

A lot can change though mate. We've shown our intent this month and nobody (bar a few like Esk) expected it. Nobody.

Koeman will at least get the chance to sit down with Stones. He could improve Stones so much as a player and as a defender (which he isn't bad at anyway).

So we'll see. I fully expect Rom to be off. I think Stones may well end up going, but I don't think it's a certainty.

You'd keep Funes the Flop instead of Stones if you only had the choice of one of them?!?!?!?

Que pasa hombre , you talking the loco

I don't get the Funes hate? He's done as well as you could expect in his first season in the PL coming from Argentina (and playing in a Roberto Martinez side to boot!)

If I had the choice though, yeh, I'd sell Funes in a heart beat if it meant keeping Stones

If stones is off to city get Van Dijk in instantly

No chance.

Say we got £40mil for Stones. So'ton would genuinely demand that much for VVD, if not more. He's on a six year deal he signed in April, and Southampton won't want another fire sale - especially to us after we've taken Koeman.

VVD is a good player, very good, actually. But no way he's worth £40mil when we could go out and get somebody equally as capable from abroad for half of that.

I think the targets I'd love are
Gk - Leno.
Cb - Van Djik, Dragovic or Ashley Williams.
Lb - either play Galloway, or I wouldn't mind José Gaya.
Cdm - William Carvalho, Krychowiak, Witsel, or (optimistically) Schneiderlin.
Cm/Cam - Hamsik, Brozevic, Ziyech, Or Mertens or, very optimistically Rooney.
Winger - Kaputska, Cuadrado (if available) Nolito, Arnautovic or Guedes.
Striker - Batshuayi, Vietto

I know they're maybe not the most realistic, but we all know a couple of big names can draw other big names to a team.

Fonte was equally if not actually better than van diyk for Southampton over recent seasons. He's to van diyk what jags has been to stones
