Everton Transfer Thread 2016

are we all in agreement that Mata will most likely play CAM?

Bloody hope so mate, been crying out for a player like him in that role for years to stick him on the wing which exposes his weak parts of play would be a bit of a waste, hope this is the season Barkley really kicks on now and develops into more than a flair player and into a complete midfielder

Why mate?

Say we do bring in Witsel and Mata, the likelihood is that Barkley may play deeper this season meaning we are already 2 greater in numbers in the centre, and theirs a decent chance that one other will be brought into the middle as well (be it Schneiderlin, Strootman or whoever else pops up)

Throw in Besic and Davies who both need more game time really, and exactly where would McCarthy or indeed Cleverley fit in anymore?
I've explained above. Of Cleverly, Barry, Gibson and McCarthy I think he's the best option long term.

I would be surprised as well, we offered Gibson a two year contract like.

@GrandOldTeam i see you took my advice with the thread e sponsorship lol I'm sure u were already working on it but if itk's can take credit for signings I'll take credit for that hahaha

Your idea mate, pinched it. Thanks.

On transfers - in the past, whenever we spent decent money - age/resale value was always the key factor.

Now - I think Koeman will be going for established players already in the prime. 27-30. He only expects to be here for a couple of seasons, he wants to impress before moving elsewhere - he's not building long term.

I suspect any youth in his team will be those already in the team.

That's the thing though mate, i don't think any of those 4 are going to be long term options

Cleverley - just plain and simply isn't god enougn by a margin
Barry - was good enough but is 36 this season and doesn't seem to suit the system and style Koeman likes from a centre mid, Gibson - well don't really need to even say anything as he is obviously not going to be in the first team, and McCarthy is too limited and to inconsistant

Besic and Davies long term could well be in the mix and really hope Davies is

Interesting...and I wouldnt mind that...we want success not another project with team full of kids

If he just brings in one then I think McCarthy will stay. If he brings 2 DM's then you may be right.

I think he will bring in 2 or 3 in the centre mate, Witsel, Schneiderlin and take a risk on Strootman, but one box to box and one top level dm i think is almost a certainty

Well if he really fancies Schneiderlin then most would see that as an upgrade on McCarthy. The fact we are linked with so many midfielders says to me he will be shipping out a few.

I also think the looking at the squad comment is probably more to see how good the kids are rather than the first teamers as Koeman has been in the Prem long enough to know what our first team squad is like and who he may want to keep or ship out.

Agree,

remember reading somewhere that Barkley always wanted to be a deep lying CM, but the playmaker type, Kroos, Alonso etc

Ive been thinking this myself, cant make up my mind whether i like it or not, i love watching players develop and grow its one of the things im massively proud of being an Everton fan, but im concious new thinking with the new regime may also be the order of the day. When i look at say City and Chelsea they went through phases of signing certain players of proven ability at a higher profile to establish them as forces, eventually attracting better and more high profile players of the back of the impact the origanal players had on the field, marketability and raising their profile. Maybe its a stepping stone to our next stage of club development.

On the flip side will Koeman be arsed, nurturing and developing the likes of Dowell, Daives, Galloway, Ledson and Walsh or offering them an oppurtunity if he is going to steer us for the short term. I would hate for us to be like Chelsea who collect talented young players only to constantly buy layers of other established players to block their progress. Additionaly they have managers who always plan for the short term.

In short i dont know.

This year should show us what Barkley will become long term positionally i reckon mate, good coaching for once, a very good fitness coach and if we bring in a lot of talent around him then it's the perfect platform for him to become the player we all hope he does

Ideal situation is a blend of both mate, if thats possible the way it used to be whilst trying to challenge for stuff i honestly dunno anymore

I know he's a red nose as a child but how is it we've not been linked with Ashley Williams??

Fantastic defender especially last year he was formidable and he's having a cracking Euro's to boot, he's been with Swansea for eight years surely a big money move could bring him to Goodison?
