Everton Transfer Thread 2016

All of which I have said last week - problem is Esk said things like "Witsel is ours", when he wasn't.

Therefore, all criticisms directed at him - including whether he's making things up or not - are unfortunately fair game at this point.

Perhaps he is ours. We still don't know. All we have are scraps from the press, most of which seems made up. For the record I don't really xare if he is or not, plenty of other good players out there.

Right can we question Esk's 'sources' now?

We were never in for Mata. Like I told you all a million times, he is staying at Man Utd even Mourinho has come out and said so as well now.

Not caught up, but how do we know we were never in for Mata?

From the Mata thread;

There really is nothing to worry about here. It will happen.

Unless Steve Walsh isn't keen, couldn't it still happen?

We might still sign him, but the information at the time of that tweet clearly wasn't correct, as Esk expected Mata and Witsel to be wrapped up quickly.

So his source either over-egged the situation, or Esk exaggerated it. Either way, as much as I like Esk, I have to be fair (and I'm one who regularly laughs at Twitter ITK's, who are glorified cold readers seeking attention) - at this point I have to say Esk has at best misjudged the situation and been unwise in what he's said, or he's a fake.

Added a bit to make your statement more complete - in my opinion of course.

Getting frustrated here, and people can question information, but transfers are so complex these days and so many parties are privvy to information that some inevitably leaks out and gets passed on and on and on and this is called "sources". That's magnified x1000000 due to internet/social media.

I wouldn't at all question Esk in this regard - he is merely passing on information he has been given at a given point in time, he, no more than anyone else, can guarantee the outcome. Players holding up the shirt/scarf is the only game in town.

All that said, the club really need to pull their finger out now, heading into another weekend. I'm buoyed by Walshs appointment and other things that have happened, but we are looking at having to head into a rush now to get the players we need - and I was 95% sure I would not be saying that 4 weeks ago. Still think we will sign a couple, but the excuses for delays are beginning to wear a little thin.

I agree. I like the Esk's posts and try not to take them too seriously but he has opened him self up for criticism and rightly so. I do however think people need to stop clinging to his every word.

But that comes to the same thing - it means he misjudged the info given, the source was unreliable and he put 1+1 together and got 12.

Look at it this way - we could announce Witsel and Mata today, and his info would still have been wrong at the time.

This on toast too. Although in fairness I think people enjoy the ride - like wanting to know what's inside the box on Christmas instead of waiting, and asking anyone and everyone if they know what it is in advance.

Nope, there are probably things that you or I don't know about and that cannot be divulged.

I work with embargoes all the time - if I were to disclose inside info, which I wouldn't, I wouldn't say "this is happening" unless it was an hour or so away from happening, as they change constantly.

That's why it was misguided to place so much confidence on a source that has ultimately been proven to be, if not wrong, then certainly pretty stupid in his certainty in regards to timings of activity etc.
