Gareth Barry was one of our better players last year. Obviously at his age he isn't going to take us to the next level, but he was our best central midfielders last year. As for Williams, stones is potentially a great defender, williams is a good defender and more importantly a great leader and communicator. Who would you rather have bought and more importantly who could we have attracted at this moment in time other than Williams.

Someone who isn't the wrong side of 30 who'll only be signing a 2 year contract.

Prob because Williams challenges for far more than Stones does. Every time you saw a striker nodding in a free header in our 6 yard box last season didn't count towards Stones' duels won stat. He wasn't even close enough to a lot of them to even contest it.

Cos he picks and chooses which to go for. Probably ducks out of ones he thinks he'll lose. 57% of 71 is 40.47 headers won in the season. As opposed to 64% of 51 which is 32.64 headers. Good to focus on the negative rather than in most other areas he easily beats him!
