Everton Transfer Thread 2016

No. I'm saying that a keeper who has played at Ajax, Roma and in a world-cup final (despite being second choice at S'ton last term) is currently better than Howard is now or was for the last two seasons. It's an improvement. I'm not slating Howard based on his 06-13 form, far from it.

And same applied to the Pienaar/Osman comments.

Bolasie has improved the squad from LAST season. Not from four/five years ago...

Heitinga also played in a World Cup final.

72 points.

Rooney used to play for us, he's won the Champs League and is England's record scorer.

I don't see much logic other than pure hype in your posts here.

So you think that the 'point' is that we haven't got a massive positive net spend? You and many others are still falling into the trap of believing that success is measured by 'net spend' and nothing else. Maybe its a problem of esteem inherent in some posters, I don't know, but you don't get points for spending the most money. Leicester didn't spend the most money last year...the clubs that did were scattered through the top half of the table, but that's all. Tell you what, lets forget the football, and just give the league title to the club that has the biggest credit on their bank account? That's not such a long stretch in credibility from what youre saying. Apart from the last two Martinez seasons, we regularly finished top six or thereabouts,or above, even with a dull, limited manager, because despite our lack of spending power the team that we put on the pitch was better than many who had spent millions.
The future for Everton is very bright, we are moving in the right direction, and there is very little to complain about at present. This can be seen by the desperation of the usual suspects, as they try to pick holes in something which is basically good.

No actually, I think you can improve a side without spending big by being smart - otherwise I wouldn't be concerned by the Hart fee or the Bolasie one.

No, what I'm saying is in response to those who think we're going to spend big because Moshiri is here, not in response to what I think is the right way of going about things. I'm saying that there's no evidence that Moshiri is going to bankroll us, so those who believe he will should hold a healthy scepticism until he does, instead of blindly expecting him to smash records all over the shop and so on.

My actual concerns? The lack of a statement signing - just one - that would have made our intent clear early in the window; that we could bring in players without having to sell first. That has now gone, so my major concern now is that incomings have only happened after the sale of Stones, which makes me worry about the future in terms of our ability to make smart signings without having to sell, not big signings.

Let's be realistic.

if you are including any of below

Ossie, pienaar, Hibbert, Mcgeady, garbutt

How many games did they play in total last season

A combined 15, I believe.

(And that's being generous, plus counting sub appearances)

Hibbo - 1 (sub vs Bournemouth I believe)
Pienaar - 2 or 3.
Osman - 10(?)
McGeady - he got 45 mins vs Barnsley
Garbutt - on loan

Yet your logic is that we haven't improved the squad from last season because Bolasie isn't as good as Pienaar was in 2010?

But we have to start off somewhere.

You're harking back to years ago.

In the short term the goal is to improve the squad from the END of the last campaign, not compared to the side that finished 5th in 08-09...

That's the goal of literally every club in the league. Most will say they've succeeded. What makes us so different then?

Yeah but give him a chance

A large part of the club management has changed its going to take time

In fact give him a chance for one reason alone - if he hadn't come in we'd be sitting here worrying about the future under the leadership of Bill and "what a manager" Martinez

I'm fully prepared to give him a chance - I'm not saying he's a fraud (not seriously anyway, although I was wumming about the heads dropping off a few weeks back!) - but I really would like to see proof that he can buy without having to sell, even if it's just the TV money, so that it ends the still valid suspicion that he could be an asset stripper in the long run.

Again, I'm not saying he is, I'm just saying there's nothing to suggest he isn't either. I want to see something to dispel any doubts about him. Koeman/Walsh are good starts, but it isn't enough.

The thing is, it doesn't really matter if we jump 4 places up the league, we'll still likely end up outside of Europa League qualification and thus fail to attract proven top players. We need a pretty big jump in terms of league position, and I don't reckon Koeman is here for the long haul, so hopefully he can achieve it this season or it might mean him giving next season a shot before deciding to up sticks and do one to the next club who flashes their arse at him.

If I worked for Man Utd, I wouldn't be able to spout off how I think Man City are the greatest team in the world, without making clear the views are my own.

That would be daft.
Ok. For your clarification, let me state it now - information posted here about transfers by @The Esk is his own personal opinion (which we are allowed to have), and not that of @GrandOldTeam. Hopefully that is clear enough.

It doesn't make us different?

I didn't say it did. But we have improved...

Great, so has everyone else. Our main rivals have, objectively, improved lots more, whereas middling clubs have improved at similar levels to us.

Hence why I'm not getting too excited.

Saying that, our first two games have been good so far. Long old season tho'.

The mods aren't paid employees of GOT - they are volunteers. They are posters first, mods second.

Nobody in their right mind would think info from Esk is info from GOT. I'd direct you to the home page (where no Esk info story has appeared) and social media for details.

With respect it is you that is making assumptions, assumptions that reported activities did not take place.

As I said in my earlier post, an understanding of Everton's finances would tell you what we had available, that armed with additional knowledge from various sources, plus our early transfer activity gives no doubt as to whether the funds were available or not.

And it is reasonable to assume that such funds remain available to spend before the 31st, i.e. there has been no big change in our recruitment policy in the past few weeks so that we are now only looking at more modest targets?
