Everton Transfer Thread 2016

McCarthy has not been a 'holding midfielder' for ages now. He's been played out of position as a central midfielder as Besic has been injured and Barry is the defensive midfielder.

@bluestevon @BlueToff

You're both saying 2 players for every position is far too much...check out our existing squad where we have at least 2 players and in a lot of cases 3 players for each position!!

We need to sign a GK,CM,LW (depending on Niasse position) and get rid of up to 8/9 players...so actually cut the squad by about 5 or 6.

Whats the obsession with playing people out of positon rather than just signing a centre midfielder.

Because imo it's far more useful to have a versatile player that can play in three positions well, and that then allows us to go for other more pressing targets for specified areas.

And we do play with two holding players Zat. Barry gets forward equally as much, if not more so, than McCarthy.

minimum 50 million to the highest bidder.

the lad was next big thing last year.

People haven't suggested him seriously have they? I know Mikel_88 wasn't but not checked the thread.

This investment doesn't mean we're gonna do a City as the whole Prem climate is so much different than it was 8 years ago, or even 5 years ago. What it does mean is that the No.1 targets we did have (i'll use Yarmolenko as an example) that were attainable anyway, but may have required us being really stingy and nit-picky with fees and wages etc, won't be as tricky anymore. Simple as that really. We aren't suddenly going to start buying world class players

All i want us to do is a stoke in that respect. They highlight players which will improve the team and sign them, so 18 million for a DM, 13 million for a winger etc. The squad itself is not an issue here, so we sign 1 or two young player and 2-3 players to challenge the first 11 and i'm happy.

Its fine to have a versatile player or two, but to get anywhere you need first to get in top notch specialists.

McCarthy imo has been playing as a CM rather than how he was in his first season.

James Rodriguez would not cut it in the premier league. He hasn't even been a great success in la liga. He simply is too lightweight and struggles to impose on the game if people get in and around him

Plus were not going to start spending 50million on one player you delusional people!

haha we wont be spending 50 million in total never mind on one player!

He needs to be at a team where he can be the star again, haven't watched him to determine where he can and can't play like but the lad is quality, but needs a team built around him so to speak.

I don't get the second point though Zat. I agree with your first but we definitely play with

Goalkeeper (well, nobody here if Howard is playing)

Back four

McCarthy --- Barry

Wide Right --- Barkley --- Wide Left

Lukaku

Both Barry and McCarthy make runs forward while the other one sits deep. We don't play with one of them rigidly sitting and the other one doing the legwork.

McCarthy is at his best going forward when he bursts forward making a third-man run, and he's at his best defensively when nipping into challenges, with Barry sweeping up and then kick-starting our attacks.

If we want a playmaker for that 'CM' position as you put it, then we already have one in the form of Barkley who could develop into that player with ease, which would mean buying a player who can play anywhere in the three behind the forward to allow Barkley to drop deep.

However, I also think Besic is going to go on to become that player in terms of a deep-lying playmaker. He often does that for Bosnia.

Tad off topic this but genuinely fear we may end up seeing him leave to China, which would be gutting for the European game. Hope I'm wrong like.

Ronaldo will almost definitely be at PSG if the rumours of his transfer request are true...
