Player Valuation: £80m
Allan is seen as a warrior in Italy...proper up + down player and definitely not soft.
For me its the Italian leagues 2020 version of a Roy Keane type player.
A year or two ago we would have had to pay £60mil+ for him.
The question mark is going to be on his age and adaptability. If Ancelotti wants him then he'll he confident that he can adapt + then i suppose its whether you would want a 29 year old Keane on a 5 year deal.
I think he'd walk into our midfield and be seen as one of the best in the league after 6 months.
I dont think he solves out centre midfield problem though as he would be playing next to:
Gomes - Inconsistent
Gbamin - Who knows
Davies - Average
Delph - awful
I still think we should be after Tonali from Brescia. In fact I could see him and Allan being a perfectly balanced central midfield pair.
Yes I think he is well suited to playing in a midfield 2. Oddly I think Gomes is as well. It's a role that sort of suits an "allrounder" more than a player with specific skills. You have to be able to do a bit of everything so in a lot of ways it's harder to play. I watched Hutchinson the other night against Sunderland, and he tackles, starts play from deep, runs beyond the forwards, assists etc, you had to be able to do a bit of everything really.
Would you really put him as one of the best in the league? Is that how highly you would rate him? I mean I've only really seen him against Liverpool, and he always acquitted himself well in those games, though it's probably fair to say midfield is their weakest area. I'm not sure if he would be the best in the league though?
My the age thing, I think this is being pushed by Ancelotti. I think he wants a player who he feels would be physically able to adapt and mentally mature enough to make an impression from day 1. Allan fits that paradigm. Brands will continue to recruit younger players, but at times your manager should be to make a signing if it's essential.
As for the contract, I wouldn't worry so much the length. We will be able to sustain wages all the time he's performing well. We also won't be selling on for a profit. I've seen 100k per week salary which is obviously sizeable but not game changing. I suspect a 3 year deal with an option may be the way we go. It can be reviewed as he approaches the end of it.
