Tell me one -current- centre midfielder in the Prem who isn't fast

Tell me one centre midfielder EVER who when you hear his name you think "Yeah, he was rapid him".

He is often described by pundits as one of the best and most complete modern day advanced playmakers, due to his technique, skill, athleticism, work-rate off the ball, vision, crossing accuracy, wide range of passing, and powerful long-range shooting ability with either foot.

Weirdly nobody mentions KDBs pace.

I mean Gareth Barry literally ran backwards.

Im not saying glacial people will prosper, but I think people put far too much emphasis on pace for CMs.

How fast is Liverpool’s midfield, Henderson and Fabinho don’t look that quick.

It’s probably the part of the team you can get away with not having pace.
They might not be sprinters, but they’re very ‘strong’ runners. They cover a lot of ground pretty quickly and without tiring. It’s what their entire system is based on.

Claude Makelele
Regarded as one of the best players ever in his position, Makélélé revolutionised the role of the defensive midfielder in the Premier League. A combative and hard-working player, although he was capable of getting forward and playing in more advanced positions, he usually played in front of his team's back-line, where he mainly served as a defensive foil for his more offensive teammates, due to his aggressive tackling, as well as his ability to read the game, break down plays, mark and anticipate opponents, and time his challenges. In this role, he was known in particular for his acceleration, positional sense, tactical discipline, intelligence, energy, and ball-winning ability; although he was not the fastest

Known for his acceleration
Not the fastest (but still fast)
Energy

So not Tosun tribute act youngster from one of the world's worst leagues

Thats down to fitness.

Anyway, pace is probably the last thing I'm looking for in a CM, clearly other people think different.
You don't think being able to catch back up to the play would be important? I couldn't count how many times this year a team got past whoever and then they were just gone because nobody had any pace to catch back up to them.

KDB is deceptively first. He does get up to some speeds but yeah, never really talked about

Nah, Gareth Barry was extremely fit but once a player got the wrong side of him he either fouled them or they just ambled away from him. Speed isn’t the first thing I’d be looking for but It would be quite nice to have players quick enough to get up and down the pitch at at least the same speed as their opposite numbers. We don’t have that at the moment.

Im not sure its a pace thing with our players, simply a CBA thing and the phase of play passing them by.

If you are out of position, all the pace in the world wont save you.

Anway I've checked FIFA and his pace might be a concern.

MOVEMENT
  • 67 Acceleration
  • 68 Sprint Speed
  • 66 Agility

Compared to KDB

MOVEMENT
  • 77 Acceleration
  • 76 Sprint Speed
  • 78 Agility
  • 76 Balance

It seem @orly was indeed correct and he's part snail.
