Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Think we’ll definitely be looking into the likes of Fraser and that young lad from Lille. Cheap depth and sort of gambles with the cost spread out over years and just paying the value of their contract, so even on high wages they’re still cheap just like Bernard. It’s the same with Silva. Fraser can play on the right too, I’d absolutely have him for free.

Do people not realise how shocking our depth is? Can’t have people turning their noses up at the like of Fraser and Hojbjerg just because they’re from “worse” teams than us. We’re not gonna be buying world beaters for £40m+ plus, especially not this summer.

Need to be smart and get these sort of bargains in, it’s not because we’re broke it just wouldn’t be smart spending that kind of money in a time like now, every club will be the same.
Paying 100k a week for depth isn't where we are right now. I agree on Silva, I think he's well worth 100k a week. The young player from Lillie could be good business as I dont think he'll command massive wages. Is Fraser worth 100k to be in our winger rotation? Probably not. Just don't think its good for us to be spending 100k and up on players who wont start. We dont need more Sandros

Yeah, Wolves have money and ambition these days. They have also operated much better than us in the transfer market recently, as have Leicester. But I’d still say we are above Leicester and definitely above Wolves imo.
I agree mostly based on what we are willing to pay players, but money won't be an advantage forever if they keep making Europe and we don't. Wolves have those shady connections with that one agent whose name I can't remember and that has helped them.

You have to think about wages in the context of the lack of a transfer fee. Free+100K a week is a very different prospect than £15M+100K a week.

I don't really see him being in position to actually get 100k in wages. It is a good number for him to start on but he's had a poor and injury ridden season this year, is currently a one year wonder, and would be quadrupling is current wage. My guess is he would take 75k and run. Not sure that is worth it either, but 100k is just wild.

I know. Just saying if he's on 100k a week for 4 years that adds up. I just dont think a right winger is where our money needs to go right now. Our CMs are absolutely dire outside of Gomes and hes banged up frequently. I'd rather throw 120k a week at someone like Rabiot on a free.

I think that's the order our priorities should be in.

Well if we can get him cheaper that's even better

I’m not saying I’d give them all 100k a week but without a fee the money you’re talking about is really nothing. Isn’t Bernard supposed to be on 150k or something mad? It’s a lot of money but when you look at someone like Iwobi or Walcott who are probably on 100k but commanded an extra transfer fee on top then you can see it’s much more of a bargain.

With Silva let’s say we give him 100k (which I don’t think he’d get at this point of his career) even still it’s nothing for a defender for a year or 2 that you’d need to spend probably at least £15m straight off for comparable quality, on top of their wage.

Fair. 100 a week for 4 years is about 20M which isn’t terrible all total. Not saying we should sign him but as squad depth considering he can play on either wing I don’t think it’d be the worst idea. Good thing I’m not in charge of transfers though.
I’d have Rabiot in a second though.

Agreed. My issue is like you said we already have bernard, iwobi, and walcott on high wages so adding another winger to the rotation on high wages seems undesirable. I hope Gordon gets a chance

Yeah it could make it not nearly as bad. People were happy to get Bernard with less of a track record on basically the same deal so in theory this isn't that bad. The most valid issue is the logjam at that position.

Iwobi is not on a high wage for a footballer which was part of the attraction to Brands when he signed him IMO.

I can see is going down that route a bit more in future. Bigger fees for players on a relatively low wage to get around FFP.

Squads need squad players.
We’ve already got a huge squad and Brands has said he wants a smaller group. We already have 4 players who can play down the left. Even if we sell Bernard or iwobi, we still don’t need another left winger.

If money is tight, which we keep reading it is. Why waste 20mil on a bog standard player, on a position that we have plenty of options. Makes no sense
