One thousand apologies, Toff :(

I thought that post was from from @bicycleheader who can see no wrong with Stones and wants to blame all the other players for his mistakes

Again, I apologise :pint2:

when have i said i see no wrong.

surely by saying he is young and will make mistakes is acknowledging he does do wrong?

continue on with your modern football fan act of ripping into young talented players. ill continue enjoying his talent and being patient when he makes a mistake.

I sure can't see us getting into the final now, for the confidence factor alone, and what's the point anyway, the way things are going we'll go out to RS and their pact with the Devil. As far as i'm concerned that would hurt more than not getting to the final. Six months ago i would have fancied our chances against anybody, things have now turned 180 degrees.

I still fancy we will get there, froggy ;)

It is going to be a long night, though :(

We are closer to Wembley than amy time since 2009. I think the players are distracted. That's what the cups do until you get to a final. If we get to Wembley watch the league results improve.

This IS a cup season though. There;s no question of that now.

It is now, yes. But the point I'm making is that it wasn't, and it shouldn't be like this. This was our best chance of top four.

Ok. No more excuses now. You can't keep making excuses this far in. We are VERY mediocre. Forget about our team being so talented and our position not doing us justice, we are VERY mediocre. That was outrageously unacceptable, and inexcusable. Some real talent on the pitch, but not gelling as a TEAM. Obviously confidence is a factor, and the run of poor results is a big contributor to it, but it goes beyond this. And yes, for all i love Roberto, and was defending him as recently as last week, he has to take some flak for this; but ultimately a lot of the defensive mistakes are down to poor decision making ON THE PITCH. My MOTM is, unpredictably, Deulofeu: apart from Barry nobody else was remotely worthy of it. Here are a few other observations on the basis of the last 90 minutes:

1. Fortress Goodison has become a free-for-all bazaar.
2. Forget about top 4 or even top 6 now, top half needs to be our ambition.
3. As a result of point 2, we're not going to be able to hang on the the squad we have in the summer. Let's be realistic about his, the chance has been blown. The best we can hope for now is to survive this transfer window.
4. We might have a lot of individual talent but are not gelling as a team, therefore in effect the net result is a mediocre team.
5. Constantly, there is no one on the far post for corners. I can't believe that lesson hasn't been learned.
6. Stones has become a bit of a prima donna and needs to get back to basics.
7. Romelu needs to take his hands from in front of his eyes and concentrate on being a bit sharper next time around.
8. Selling Naismith was a massive error imo, a real stab in the back for someone who always gave 100%, and can only be condoned if we are buying a top class striker to replace him. Kone is only good enough off the bench, he's had more than enough chances to convince me otherwise.
9. The Goodison crowd have become the twelfth man - for the opposition. Barkley and Howard in particular are suffering. You don't stab your own players in the back during a game. Neither of these players are as bad as some are making out on here, but as someone else suggested Roberto needs to take Tim out of the firing line and let Joel have the shirt for a while.
10. The referee has become the thirteenth man - but we're not doing enough to override this and make our own luck.
11. We badly need a buyer and and a serious injection of money - so have you managed to seal a deal yet, Bill, or will you still be trying to sell us the same old myth next season?

We were embarrassing in that first half but acquitted ourselves well in the second. A bad referee decision (we should have had a penalty) and some excellent keeping from Fabianski cost us in that second half

I'm not going to blame it solely on the tactics, but we've had some close calls with the back passing in the past. Hopefully we knock that nonsense on the head now

Completely agree with you there.

You know each and every week how we will line up. We aren't even doing it well... so we keep doing it.

Oviedo isn't a right back in a million years. There was one horrible outside-of-the-foot attempted cross which said it all.

Second half Swansea just sat back and waited to break. If Routledge had scored it would have been just a repeat of goals conceded vs Stoke and Leicester. We don't learn at all.

Lukaku vs Ashley Williams all day - but if he'd gone two up front, it would have at least have given them something to think about. Instead, nah, let's bring on the coward that is Cleverley and keep on doing the same old thing.

Pienaar showed today that if the future is Cleveley on the the left of midfield then god help us, as it is going to get A LOT worse before it gets better.

Cleverley is just another Neville-a-like.

Seems like you are having difficulty answering a simple question. Did you go today? If you did then you will have seen that he did alter the shape. But you said he didn't. I think elbow and backside springs to mind.

Howard is a complete joke though he has given the most pens away now!

Well I'll be watching, and I'll be a nervous wreck before the first ball is kicked! Obviously I'd love us to win the trophy, but i can't bear the thought of RS doing one over us yet again, and on current form it's on the cards.
