Spurs really play a lot of hospital balls high up the pitch across their defence (it’s really no surprise they keep getting beat). We had a fair amount of pace who with some good pressing could have nicked a ball and got into all that space behind creating a 2 on the goalie situation. The pressing was just lazy and when they did catch a Spurs defender cold the presser just looked to think “oh whoops what the hell do I do now?” and often let the defender just dribble through them.

I was told Silva would create a good press but from what I’ve seen we just go through the motions.

I thought that too. No goals conceded from set pieces for a few games on the bounce. We have turned the corner lads, Europe here we come.
I actually think we have but wasn’t sure but on one of the corners that I was looking in particular at the set up it just seemed man for man.

I hate to mirror my comments of last week but... why I am not surprised.

That Atkinson can’t see Walcott didn’t commit a foul (and I’m the best part of six times further away than the ref). For the record if it deserved review why book Walcott in the first place when there are three options?)

Why isn’t a clear handball (in a non natural position) not a routine penalty ?

Why was Atkinson bringing out a yellow card for such an apparently awful challenge (VAR adjusts to red) and indeed - was it the collision that caused the serious injury which suggests the red card might have been harsh)

And indeed the non foul on Richarlison didn’t warrant a red card review

We’ve now reached the point where refs feel the need to check every moment of controversy - and yet still not have the balls to follow through. As I had already remarked - would Brighton have benefitted from VAR 1-2 down with ten minutes to go at Goodison? I’m not so sure.
It wasnt the collision . Rewatch it (not nice) but his leg was gone before the collision.

This season's turned into a horror show. Gomes' injury feels like it underlines a darkness that seems to be hovering like a fog around the club. Depressing day.

Son have not intended the consequences that happened, but there is no doubt it was a pre meditated and malicious foul with the sole aim of bringing bringing Gomes down. All this ' he's a nice bloke really' garbage just doesn't wash.

The absolute whopper who racially insulted Son needs banning too.

Christ, what a crap match from start to finish. I'm still angry and frustrated even now.
