Everton Youth Teams Thread

this is the 3rd group game and pretty likely our last action in this cup bar a miracle
plus in PREM league 2,leaders liverpool lost 3-1 home to swansea today

..Gibson getting more game time at CB is an encouraging sign that the coaches rate him. He’s younger than most. Those that think he’s more a CB than a LB will rightly point to him getting a game ahead of Foulds.

I have a feeling Joe Williams is much more of an Allardyce type midfielder than Walsh.
Forget Mr 1.2 ppg if Everton have got any sense or ambition then he has to be paid off in the summer. As for Walsh if he gets sold without having had any opportunities to play for the first team then I personally think that will be a big mistake. In my opinion he's hands down a better player than Davies, Baningime and Williams.

I'm not really arsed on who YOU think are good/bad I'm just saying from what we've seen with chances given all of those are currently ahead of Walsh in the pecking order and that's not even a deniable fact.
When Davies got his chance Walsh was out on loan. When Beni got his chance Walsh was out on loan. Had he not been its possible he may have been the one given the opportunity in both instances. The timing was against him.

He has not been given a chance. That is also an undeniable fact. He still has 18 months left on his contract and he is still just 20. WTF is the rush here?. Last loan didnt work out. Get him another one in Jan and reassess in the summer. What can be wrong in that?

...I presume a succession of managers have not thought he’s up to it. If they don’t think he’s good enough they won’t pick him. I like him but it comes to a point where a decision has to be made about all these youngsters.

Not really....some are getting games like browning/Williams/dowell...

Others like Galloway and walsh are not...

Now, Galloway has now had successive bad loans but that doesn't necessarily mean he wont make it with us (see barkley)

Walsh was outstanding at Yeovil and the Birmingham fans wanted him to play...just get him another loan...he will still be worth 1mil in 6 months time.

I sometimes think you enjoy winding me up where Walsh is concerned Eggs.

As per my post, my belief is that both Beni and Davies benefitted from Walsh being on loan when their opportunities came up. They both took their chance with both hands and credit to them. Walsh has not yet been given an oppirtunity and has a skill set not present in the first team squad. Every day I see posts on here lamenting our creativity from midfield and we have a lad here not been given a chance. I'll say again. He's still only 20 with 2 years left in his contract. Whats the rush?

...i’m not Fred, i’m genuinely not. You could be right but Davies was fast tracked into the team because they thought he was special and they thought he was ready. Walsh was sent on loan because they considered he wouldn’t get a game. I really like Walsh but the writing was on the wall when they didn’t take him to Dubai for warm weather training.

I know Championship clubs wanted him last January and I remember the quote that the club would ‘reluctantly’ let him leave if he wanted to go. It meant they were not close to giving him a game. Shame, but it’s all about opinion. It sounds like a move is in the best interest of the player.

At this point I normally say I hope I'm wrong. But in this case I hope I'm right as I really want the kid to do well.

..he’s a fabulous footballer. I think his time at Yeovil suggested to me he was a stand out. It is a ruthless business, though. I know money isn’t everything but these boys are very well paid young professionals, they are not trainees being released. Walsh will be fine, he’s not only talented he’s got attitude.

The problem is though mate, sometimes players will want away permanently. Walsh has 18 months on a deal to run which won't be huge. If he gets the chance to a 3-4 year contract, with win bonuses, appearance fees etc it i a very tempting offer. In 6 months tim with Bristol City he could be playing in the Premier League too, which may well have a mandatory increase in wage. It could well be he is on 3/4/5 or even 10 times his current salary within a year if things go well. It's hard to stand in the way of that for young players. Everton are quite good with this and acknowledge if they can get lads a career in the leagues in many ways they have done their bit.

I'm not saying it's right, but the offer from Bristol City might not be there in 6 months. They may get promoted without him and feel they want a more experienced player. I would suspect Walsh is pushing for the move and the club if he is to go are ding so reluctantly but also happily to give him the best chance he can get of moving forward.

It's a real shame, he's a very talented footballer. For me more talented at youth levels than Beni and Davies, but they only tell you half the story. A lot depends on getting a good break and also how you train and handle the first team. Whats without question though is if you are good enough you will get given a chance with Everton.

It's funny as Ryan Ledson left the club, and is doing well for Oxford, close to 100 appearances now which is very good for a 20 year old. However at present doesn't look like there are any takers higher up with him. Maybe some players find a level, make a decent living from the game, and don't want to risk being released at 21/22. You look at whats happened to Mcaleny who should have probably moved on some years before he did.
