Everton Youth Teams Thread

Is it not based on age though? If you're young enough there's no need to register them in the 25 was the point I was making.
Sure, but I think what they were talking about was the problem of having a squad of more than 30 and realistically finding things for them to do during the week. They wanted to trim it down to 25 so that people knew they had a chance of playing if they did well. Of course, if you are a youth player on the fringes and you start turning people's heads, then you get into the squad, but if you have too many second/third choices then people start to think "Well, it doesn't matter what I do, I'm never going to get a game."

Yes, but realistically, if you have not made your way into the 25 (which is more than two fighting for each place) then you are not really making the breakthrough. I was referring to the youth players having a realistic chance of being full squad members. Ones I would class in 'additional' youth players would be someone like Hornby, for example.

25 plus a load of promising young players at 20/21 is still far far too big a squad with no European football

They have to be counted by Brands in the 25 for the simple matter of wages...cant have 25 + 8 u21s on £30k+ a week

Players like Feeney/Gibson/Hornby would be 'additional' i think.

Although I would like the youth players to be worth their introduction into the first team, I think more realistically speaking the next season is going to be:
Davies (squad)
Holgate (squad)
Lookman (maybe around 1st team, maybe teddies out of pram and transfer - all depends on him and manager/DoF)
Vlasic (squad or loan in Europe)
Kenny (squad or possible transfer)
DCL (squad)
Dowell (loan or possible transfer - I have an odd suspicion he could end up with the porn barons)
Baningime (squad)
Williams (loan or transfer)
Connolly (squad or transfer)
Robinson (squad or loan)

That's even me, who is an enthusiastic backer of youth players, doubting that you are going to get nine out of a planned squad of 25 being youth players. So on the negative side, some of those I have as squad above could well leave. On the other hand, squad means that they are not automatic first choice but could convince new management to give them a chance over existing players.

(The ones I think have most of a chance are actually Baningime and Connolly. Davies and DCL are existing first team/squad players but could get crowded out as signings are being contemplated in both their positions. Holgate and Kenny are potentially having a battle for Coleman's back-up position and Holgate wins by also being back-up central defender. Out of all those my favourites are Williams and Kenny - unfortunately I don't see either of them making it here long term although I'm sure they will have good professional careers.)

I’d like to see 16/17 non youth players being supplemented by 8/9 youth players for the squad. Let’s get rid of the dead wood and concentrate on buying a small number of quality players. I wouldn’t be selling Dowell unless he won’t sign a new contract & then I’d insist on a buy back clause. In a few years I think he’s going to be a very, very good player.

So it seems like lavery, Kiersey, foulds and Bramell must have been offered new terms as they are out of contract at the end of June.

Thanks mate, I appreciate your assessment - I personally like the kid but understand he may prove successful in the lower leagues.
Hadn't seen enough of him to judge him, looks a decent size, nice touch, but hadn't really seen a big target man come through for a while, seems to be all about strikers with a lot of movement these days.
who really knows at that he might just go up a level as he settles down in that position?

Kenny and Dowell currently playing for England U21 in the Toulon final.
1-0 down to Mexico in the first 2 mins
