Everton Youth Teams Thread

Kenny really? I think he'll need to improve massively if he's going to still be here in 3 years personally. He's showing no signs of getting past Coleman and by the end of the season he'll be 22. If he hasn't nailed down a place at full back - traditionally one of the 'easier' roles for young players - at that age I think you have to assume he never will.

I was a big fan of him from what i'd seen as a youngster but I have to say last year he looked like he was lacking in a few areas to ever be really good at the top level. He could improve, obviously, but I think he's currently way off.
Surley your taking the piss ? Kenny is only 21 and behind arguably the best right back in the prem, of course he's not gonna be a starter yet.

You do realise in 3 years Coleman will be finished an Kenny will be more than ready to replace him.
When Coleman was Kenny's age he was playing for Blackpool, he couldnt even take the right back spot off Tont [Poor language removed] Hibbert and now your expecting Kenny to take the right back spot off Coleman who's one of the best in the league..

While it’s nice having them around the squad none of them are going to be regular starters when all the new signings are fit and up to speed.
To be honest I’ll be surprised if any of them with the exception of Robinson and JJK are still here in 3 yrs time
I hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see a spot for any of them in our first 11
You do realise there is a bench ? Were 7 players can sit ?
Why are you demanding all our academy kids walk straight in to the starting 11 the moment they turn 19 ?

Think it’s a little bit shady if I’m understanding it right. There’ll be appeal to bring in PL youth players on loan but what happens if they turn out to be terrible? You’re practically forced to keep playing them, at the detriment of the team, just to avoid being shafted in wages.
Crystal Palace have adopted a new way of running youth loans. They are saying lower leagur clubs arent willing to spend money on loan fees/wages as they are too high. So palace are loaning their players out for free with the catch if the arent starting, the club pays 50% of that weeks wage. Unless the player is injured of course. Do you reckon this a good model we can adapt to which sounds like a win to everyone.
No because those league 1/ league 2 teams are dire and play dire football, we need our players to be playing real football like our first team. They're not gonna learn anything by playing long ball football and getting their legs snapped by 40 year old brick layers

Coleman is already finished.

Hi mate, thanks for replying to the same post twice, I don't think I've ever even incensed my wife so much that she can't wait 7 minutes for an answer so i'm impressed that you were so desperate for a reply.

Firstly, I'm not so sure Coleman is one of the best in the league right now. I don't want to write him off, but the truth is he had an appalling injury, and has not looked quite the same player since he came back. I hope he can get back to the same level, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he can't. He's still fine don't get me wrong, but we're not talking about trying to dislodge the Coleman of 2013 here.

Secondly, I want Everton to be right at the top of the league, challenging for honours. In order to do that, we need top class players, and i'm not sure that Kenny is in that bracket unfortunately. As I said, he may improve, but based on what I've seen so far I just don't think he's got the game to be getting himself 50 England caps, and that's the sort of level I think you need to be at to be playing regularly for a team at the top of the league. I'm not trying to knock him or say he'll never be a PL player, simply that I hope the days of players having a career at Everton on the basis that they're 'not that bad' - Hibbert, Osman, Anichebe etc - have gone.

did you write Coleman off when he was 21 ?
I didnt realise players reach their maximum potential the moment they turn 21....

The sooner you realise were just a mid table team the sooner you can stop expecting all our academy kids to be world beaters. (There a no top class kids in ANY premier league team). I bet you didn't have a problem with Hibbert being our right back for 10 years...

You're really not very good at this mate (quoting, writing, making sense, being able to read, take your pick). I've just said - in the post that you are replying to (twice) - that I've had enough of players like Hibbert being in the team just because they were free. I also said that Kenny may well improve, but i'm giving an opinion of him based on what I've seen. It's kind of what the forum is for I believe, although your idea of just spamming it with utter drivel might catch on if you keep trying.

Do you know how many right full backs have won 50 caps for England mate? 3. And one of them was crap.

I still haven't given up on Kenny yet. I'm actually hoping he doesn't have his big break through this season as it means that Seamus doesn't get his mojo back. But I do think that, over the next couple of years, he will get more and more game time as Coleman gets niggles, and would expect him to be ready to be first choice in 3 seasons.

By all means vault me if I'm still about then;)

Im not demanding they walk straight in to the first 11,but if they are not good enough to challenge for a place in the first 11 then they should be allowed go where they can play first team football

Do you know how many players have gained more than 40 caps for England in the 146 years since their first game? 84. Do you know how many of those were playing within the last 10 years? 30. The games changed, 20 England caps is the equivalent of 5 a few years ago. Ross Barkley made his Everton breakthrough a couple of months before he turned 20 and hasn't kicked a ball for England since he was 21, and yet he's still got 22 caps.

50 is obviously a number plucked out of thin air, but the point is to play regularly for Everton in a couple of years I very much hope that you will need to be at least as good as the likes of Baines and Jagielka, who have 30 and 40 caps respectively.

It's a tough one. I genuinely hope Kenny proves me wrong both because young players coming through is what I want to see anyway, and because I always liked him as a youngster, but I just haven't been massively impressed with what I've seen at senior level. In 3 seasons he'll be 24/25. Considering he first played senior football at 18, I just can't see him wanting to wait until then to become first choice, and if he does, I can't imagine that he'll be of the level we're looking for. That's the harsh truth for young players everywhere now, you've got to be better than ever before to get in ahead of the myriad of internationals available to teams.

Depends what you determine as "kids". Under 23 is what I think. In which case there are plenty.

To name but a few, Sane (22), Jesus (21), Rashford (20), Alexander-Arnold (19), Chilwell (21), Ndidi (21), Gray (22)...

Maybe they aren't "world class" yet but they are playing at a very high level. And they are way ahead of Jonjoe.

Just to be clear though that I really like Kenny and think he is a good understudy to Coleman and will definitely improve.
