Everton Youth Teams Thread

Keep up mate , new phrase is “ He ain’t good enough , send him out on loan to Laegue 2” . Damn him for scoring twice last night, we already had him down as yesterday’s hero in favour of our new beaut Ellis Simms !

too true, if Hornby isnt cutting it a PL level now at 19, when players like Mbappe are already winning world cups then its pretty obvious Hornby isnt good enough.

Looking forward to the potential Ellis Simms can show for 6 months until we declare him not good enough

you said, send him to the championship, i dont think he would get game time there. A level lower to that were it may not be as good a standard but he gets appearences would be miles better for hi m.

Name a championship side an untested 19 year old hornby would get into
An untested Tammy Abrahams went to Bristol City as an 18 year old and scored 23 goals. Another young Chelsea striker, Izzy Brown, had loan spells at both Rotherham and Huddersfield as an untried 19yo. Adam Armstrong, a young striker from Newcastle spent the year on loan at Barnsley. Antonee Robinson, Kieran Dowell and Callum Connolly were all 19 and untested when they went to Championship teams last season and all did well. These are just names in the last couple of years from the top of my head. I'm sure if I looked into it I'd come up with quite a few more.

Hornby is well regarded at youth level and is making a name for himself for Scotland U21 having scored 6 goals in 5 starts as an 18 year old (including games against decent teams such as England, France and Holland). Think if he maintains his form and stays injury free he won't have much problem finding a suitor in the championship in January.

I said it’d be good to send him there but they won’t play him. Plz go back and read.

I wouldn't be sending Hornby out on loan just yet, can't until January anyway so its a mute point. he hasn't even fully established himself at u23 level yet for me. Hopefully he has a great 4 months and the club will see where he is come January

Hornby was apparently one of the players Alan Stubbs was after on loan at St Mirren before he was sacked, so good swerve there. Re a loan in Scotland, Aberdeen have a decent manager, play good football and have a good reputation when it comes to players on loan. Most notable was James Maddison when he played for them , and really shot to prominence after scoring a great goal to beat Rangers , as you do. Danny Ward , the ex RS goalkeeper , had a decent run there too before being recalled. As has been said , Hornby really needs to start scoring more for the U23s , but his progress since being switched to a striker role has been excellent. And that is big factor in any loan move as he’s far from the finished article - it’s not just about getting game time at a higher level , it also needs to be somewhere where they will continue to work on his development too.

All the everton lads you mentioned were 19, going on 20! With a lot more football under there belt, Hornby is a graduate year younger than all of them when they got championship moves.
And Chelsea young players get a better oportunity than ours due to the club they came from, based on profile
No one went for them at Hornbys age.
I would be utterly gobsmacked if by the end of the season he was playing week in week out in the championship. As i said SPL probably best destination for him to cut his teeth (plus may help him get a head start towards international recognition)

Hornby can't go out on loan until January at the earliest mate, so by that time we're probably talking a couple of month difference in age between the 3 I mentioned. Bit nit picking really.

As I said, it depends on how he does for the U23s and Scotland u21s between now and then. If he continues to do well and has stayed injury free, the club may decide he's ready for a loan. If they do, I'm pretty sure we will find suitors for him. Not sure Chelsea have that much a higher profile than us as you think either.

Don't know enough about the SPL to comment really. What makes you think a loan there would be better for him?

..I doubt Hornby would be involved in the England set-up in this age group if he was English.
Yep, DCL, Solanke, Abraham would be his competition, no chance he’d be ahead of them whatever people think of them individually. That’s the nice thing about Scotland, Wales, Ireland etc, as they’re weaker, players get a chance earlier and it helps their development. Charsley, Broadhead, Lavery, Astley are all benefiting , Robinson too in a sense . We just have to put it into perspective that they are playing for “weaker” countries and in most cases far from being PL ready with us.But , heh if Steven Naismith can get a call up and score goals who’s to say Hornby won’t play for Scotland before he makes a PL debut :)
