Everton Youth Teams Thread

Surely, though, at this stage of the season there's absolutely no point including deadbeats like Alcaraz in the squad? It would make more sense to have Browning; if he's good enough to play against Liverpool and Man U., even if only as sub, then West Ham shouldn't be too stern a test for him, if it's only for 10 - 15 minutes at the end.

......agree that youngsters could be given a taste of first team experience via a place in the squad and travelling to away games.

100% agree with this.
Their were players in that sunderland game who were already in their flip flops. It would give a browning or a ledson more incentive to come back next season and try and atleast get a regular spot on the bench.
We lost that sunderland game anyway but what was the point in mcgeady?
Chelsea v liverpool game the other day they have loftus cheek a little run out and the rs brought on sinclair.
At this time of season with nothing to play for stuck a couple on the bench. It gets you a little bit of 'good will' with the fans and also if we are expecting to not spend much money in the summer why not use the line
' we have some phenominal youngsters coming through who are at an excelent moment in training and we dont want to block their progression' blah blah blah

Think the problem for the less wealthy clubs is the million pounds we can win by jumping a finishing place, means RM will rely on the usual suspects rather than chance the younger players.

I know what your saying their. Hindsight is a beautiful thing saying we got beat anyway by sunderland so we should of gave a few kids a go, but what id do now is tell Stones he has been quality this season and go and have a 2 week holiday in Magaluf before the under 21s euros and when he comes back he would of had that extra 2 weeks rest for next season. Martinez keeps saying he is looking at next season, surely if Gareth Barry see's Besic or even Ledson getting a game he may think "these are after my place I best work my nuts off"

I do also sometimes think we still forget that Barkley & Stones are only 21, Lukaku 22 & Mcarthy 24 which is 4 young players in the spine of our side. Although Lukaku has been playing for 6 years, McArthy for 8 Stones & barkley for 3 so they do have plenty of match experience.

Iv started reading Ossies book and he mentioned he felt like he was wasting time playing in the reserves, he asked Archie Knox for a move on loan to get first team football and Archie told him to do one saying we have 6 important reserve team matches coming up. I beleave we don't use the loan system to our advantage when it comes to youngsters. Whats Browning learned this season? Galloway surely would of been better off a year at MK Dons? If Ledson & Kenny play another year at u21 level will they not stagnate & get bored?
You loan your kids out and then that way you can see what they are like playing against men, not people your own age who you have played against all your life but physical fella's. It can either get them ready for the first team or even give them exposure to help get a bigger transfer fee

Think we do pretty well with the loans now to be honest. Think we've got 9 players out on loan. Of the ones you've mentioned that didn't go out:

-Browning I assume was kept as we wanted him as back up for the 1st team if needed as he was on occasion. We only have 4 centre backs and 1 right back (and a Hibbert) so wise to keep him around.

-Galloway only joined last summer so probably wanted to have a look at him and give him (at least) a year in our system rather than putting him straight back in the lower leagues.

-Ledson is still on 17 and Kenny just turned 18 in March so they are too young to be going out. They probably wouldn't get much game time even in League 1.

This lad speaks very well for himself. He was rated highly as an under 16. At the start of the season he struggled to break into our under 18's team, but over the second half of the season has really excelled.

I know @Zatara asked me a while back who could be our new right back. I ran the rule over Browning, Kenny and Jones concluding that none of them where an absolute natural fit or dead cert.

This lad looks the most natural fit in terms of style. He gets forward well, comfortable on the ball, quick and agile. One to keep an eye on.

From the limited amounts I've seen of him he is pretty decent defensively as well as having an eye for the goal. Guess next year he'll be promoted up to the U21s as some of this years group are sent out on loan.

...It's not just about playing, it's also about coaching. You mention Osman who had been at Everton since a young boy but Galloway is relatively new to the fold and the aim might have been to get him settled into a new club and city as well as having him work with our coaches. I don't think it's one size fits all.

I can see were you are coming from on that point of view and if he is possibly going to be 4th/5th choice centre back next term it may be worth keeping him around. But that has been Brownings problem, he got kept around incase of injurys to Coleman/Hibbert/Jags/Stones/Alcaraz happened. That's a lot of injurys away from getting any serious kind of game time & at some point or other this season all of them have had large spells out. Can you see the same happening next year?

Good to see Kenny mention he wants to go out on loan though, as he is still very young I would look at sending him up to Hibs with another player Ledson. were Stubbs knows them both and would probably genuinely have their best interest at heart

...let's not forget Browning was on loan at Wigan and it was reported he had 'a very bad experience' when there. I know staff at Wigan but haven't found out what happened.

Dave Whelan saw him in the corridor and told him about breaking his leg in the fa cup final?

I seem to remember him giving away a penalty in his first game. It could be something as simple as that and rosler wasn't prepared to start him so he got brought back
