U18 team v Derby:
Zan Leban, Thierry Small, Reece Welch, Eli Campbell, Liam Higgins, Isaac Price, Lewis Warrington, Sean MaCallister, Tom Cannon, Lewis Dobbin and Kat
Currently winning 2-0 (in 2nd half)
The win [if we keep it] will keep us 6th as we were 5 points of 5th place before KO, and 7 points off top, Next League game is that Leeds one which has been called off twice, a week Tuesday

Everton Under-18s produced an impressive performance to defeat Derby in Premier League (North) at USM Finch Farm on Saturday.

A moment of magic from Lewis Warrington and second-half goals from Lewis Dobbin and Thierry Small handed Paul Tait's side all three points as the young Blues rose to sixth in the league table.

Everton were dominant throughout and, after a scrappy opening, looked dangerous on the break as a couple of audacious passes from Isaac Price just evaded his target.

Tom Cannon was enjoying himself up front for the hosts and it was his slick movement which worried the Derby backline. The centre forward had the first real chance of the game when his curling effort was tipped behind by Harvey Randle in the Rams' goal.

Katia Kouyate had the ball in the net midway through the first half, but he was adjudged to be offside when he powered home a header.

Just minutes before half-time, Warrington broke the deadlock. Everton won a free-kick 20 yards from goal and Warrington stepped up, before hitting a sumptuous strike into the far corner.

It took just seven minutes after the restart for Everton to double their lead and they were well worthy of the goal. Kouyate this time gathered the ball in the middle of the park, danced past two defenders before picking out Dobbin in the penalty area who poked the ball home from close range.

Small then put the result in no doubt as the blistering full-back advanced into the Derby penalty area, shook off a challenge and delicately chipped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Derby struggled to inflict any pressure on the Everton defence. Their best effort for what would have been only a consolation goal came minutes from time. Kaide Gordon unleashed a powerful strike from long range but Zan-Luk Leban was equal to it and parried the away from goal.

Never ending thanks Ring master, for your time and valuable information.

is it not usually around july time?
Yep that’s the official release time. In the past some individual players have announced their scholarships on their social media about end of November , I would guess they get told as early as possible to enable them to find another club if they don’t fit e.g. Simms at Man City. Unusually we haven’t had any Schoolboys /u16s on the bench yet for the u18s so no names in the frame, although at least one was with England u16s recently.

Right Back seems to be a weakness at u18/23/ 1st team in terms of depth of cover. I think Liam Higgins from the u18 got some minutes there for the U23s in pre season friendlies but it’s been mainly John, Connolly and Pennington otherwise , so yeah options are limited. None of the u18 except Higgins are looking like an u23 RB , John requires a lot more work defensively to challenge Coleman/Kenny so if we really are joined up in our thinking we need a decent young RB to come in in January at U23s level who can maybe be developed for next season.

It has been a while since we had a RB of note. Probably James Yates who I know had some England recognition. Mind you, you'd have to say Kenny has done very well there, and I also like Kyle John. You're rigt though, it's rarely the position when you watch the 18's or 23's that there is ever much talk about.

Even now, people talk about Onyango and Dobbin. Underneath that Reece Welch and Isaac Price are getting mentioned a lot. None are right backs. (Obviously Small is a left back).

I think we probably need to sign two right backs.

One to seriously compete with (and ideally push out) Coleman. Another to come into the youth team for a couple of seasons to then replace Coleman in the squad.

On the left weve got Digne backed up by Nkounkou and Small coming through.

On the right its an ageing Coleman with Kenny backup and then Iwobi and Godfrey slotting in.

It would be nice to see us bring in some youth players now the ban is over.
