Everton Youth Teams Thread

My view on youngsters for what it's worth. The best ones have usually broken into the u18s when they are still u16s and when they are first year scholars they tend to be first choice I the u18s and also playing games with the u23s. Where we seem to fail is what to do with them when they aren't quite ready for our first team but have out grown the u23s. Some of the loans we have set up have in my opinion ended the players chances. However them staying in the u23s can be just as bad. Maybe if they keep the 9 subs rule we could put a couple of youngsters on the bench to give them a taste of it.

my take is if they have outgrown the u23 and not good enough to be in the first team squad you release them. Rule of thumb is they have to be first team squad ready by 20.. else won’t happen.

I agree but some of the better youngsters are playing u23s at 16. So after 2 years they are still 18/19 and will start going backwards. Also we have had far too many players hopefully once we get down to a 24 man squad there will be opportunities.

I think the next "phase" for the club is to start making decisions on players earlier. Who do we retain at 19, who do we promote to the first team squad, who do we try and loan and ultimately who is let go. I'd expect a lot less holding players around.

....such a shame when these serious injuries happen at a key stage when clubs are making decisions about a youngsters future.

It's a horrendous injury as well, one which ends peoples careers, or in most cases greatly reduces their functionality.

Iversen was having his best run in the 23s, playing as a wide player who tucked on when we lost the ball. A role that seemed to suit him and Rhys Hughes.

He didnt stand out quite as much as Hughes, but I saw a player who I really felt would make a career out of the game. He was 5 ft 11, worked hard and had good quality on the ball. Could have seen him being a useful player in league football.

Hopefully he comes back. Not sure he will make it here, but should get a career from the game if he does.

A lot of players in the over 22 bracket and older like Niasse have helped Unsworth‘s teams to win cups and titles.

After Everton u17s made it through to the last 8 of the u17s premier league cup as group winners based on head to head in Jan, The other groups have now in effect been sorted with one game left which has no effect on who get's through - so i think the draw will be very soon

Teams through to final 8 are [One Legged Q/F]

Leicester City [Group A winners]
Aston Villa [Group B Winners]
Southampton [Group C Winners]
Blackburn Rovers [Group D Winners]
Middlesbrough [Group E Winners]
Everton [Group F Winners]
Brighton [Group G Winners]
Leeds qualify [as the best 2nd placed team from all the 7 Groups for the simple reason they had a better GD than other 2nd placed teams with same points]

Great spot! Their highlights are even worse than ours at this level though, no idea as to most of our team as the camera is too far away for my eyesight! Going on size and positions you can guess a few. Jak Stewart in goal, looks like Reece Welch and Eli Campbell are the centre backs, and maybe Romain Quintyne at right back. A cracking 2nd goal from Boro and they missed a penalty, it looks like we were well beaten there.

DCL, Richarlison, Allan, Doucoure, Rodriguez. DCL joined us at 19, and certainly wasn't first team ready. Rodriguez only joined Porto from SA at 19. Doucoure made his Renned debut during his 19/20 season. Richarlison hadn't joined Watford. Allan hadn't moved to Italy.
