….you should listen to the interview with him on the ex-players thread. Its lengthy but I think it’s a must watch for Evertonians

I watched that podcast with him on the ex players thread.
Came across as knowledgable and driven.
Seemed very open and honest about what had gone wrong in his career and how it might stand to him as a coach.
He's an assistant coach to the U14, 15s etc, it's not like he's been given the role of first team coach.
I think we're all very quick to slate the club for stuff like this but in a way it's what's best about the club.
I hope he's a success.

Well I doubt hiring a local lad who retired from football early and is getting qualified to be an assistant coach to the under 14s is why we're not successful

…I think too much might be made of coaching these youngsters. Whilst accepting some coaches are more effective than others, it’s lots to do with talent and attitude at that age.

Don't think it helps when you've got some of them earning a few grand a week after doing sweet fa. Got to wonder if the hunger (attitude) is there. Have they got that desire to really push themselves to reach the very top (1st team), I'm not so sure.

That wouldn't be a problem unique to Everton though and there are no easy solutions

Was just speaking out loud tbh about Evertons squad.

Can't understand the clubs fixation with filling the coaching staff with previous players. Do they genuinely believe they are the best coaches available ?
Can't think of any other premier league club with as many former players on the coaching staff.
