Everton Youth Teams Thread

There is an increasing race to the bottom in terms of 'smaller' clubs fielding younger and younger players as that is a very easy and effective way to put them on the market. It's rife in South America and getting worse in Europe as well.

Not saying that against Loney and Graham specifically but it is a growing trend.
It’s a fair point, particularly in Scottish football, I don’t know much about S America. The RS signed right back Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen about 2 years ago after he’d started for Aberdeen as a 17 year old, cost about £5mill. Still young but out on loan to Wigan this season. I suspect that we haven’t spent much on those two, so relatively low risk, although reports from both clubs suggest we’ve taken our usual fair minded approach to dealing with them.

Re Loney, I know that by the time he got his debut to break their “youngest ever” record he was already on his way to us so in that case it was definitely more of a reward than a marketing tool.

Does that apply to the Irish though? I think there's a different set of rules there because of the GFA.

There is a common travel area agreement between the UK and The Republic mate, but it’s the football rules around it, they recognise the EU as one region anything outside is an other.

Thus Republic players can’t sign for a UK club until 18. More and more are going to Italy and Spain from here, when they used to go to the U.K.

Which is another reason why Premier League clubs see value in multi club models.
