Everton Youth Teams Thread

Ability wise the groups have never been the best in the country I don't think (hence less recognition with England youth teams).
England recognition at youth level is an interesting debate. Their style of play often reflects the way we play at Youth level and I think this shows in the current players
who have been most successful re number of caps recently. Connolly, Yates and Kenny are attacking full backs , just what England want and the way they play.Similarly Ledson and Davies are very strong Defensive Midfielders who play the same way for Everton and England.
I like all five players, but how do you compare them with the good youngsters we have who's style is perhaps more individual , doesn't suit England so easily and yet appear to be equally as talented e.g. Walsh, Dowell, Evans , Brewster.
Sorry got interrupted and lost the point I was trying to make, which originally was about if England selection is more akin to the style we play rather than pure ability , so it's ended up more musing than making a clear point :-)

I think our young players tend to have a far better work ethic than other academy players (Browning asking to train with the u21s before the 1st team are due back a good example).
Perhaps that is a reason some people are surprised when talented players get ditched or move on? They have all the ability but not the work rate.
George Green?, Baxter?,

I am not so sure on that. I think our recent crop (under 19's and under 18's) are as good as anyone in the country. It's fair to say though for the 10-15 years before that our age groups were not as strong. We were probably about as good as our first team were. In the top division but half way up.

A lot of our lads tend to be local. I think that is a big difference. Even the crop you mentioned, most were lads born with an hours drive from the ground. maybe that counts for something?

Rhyl have got 4 of ours on the books from the looks of it; Kyle Scarisbrick, Jake Eyre, Tom Donegan and Ibou Touray. North Wales must be full of ex Everton!

They were never going to sell us Dier to be honest. I know Moyes gets bashed over the head for this with some revisionism but Sporting had no intention of selling him to us. It was a loan of convenience. We got a terrific centre half who the other lads could learn from and Sporting got their player trained well.

I was told even at age 18 they wouldn't have taken a 10 million for him which was a lot of money back then. A shame really as he looks a great prospect now.

I wonder if Dier had been at Everton as a promising young centrehalf, would we have signed Stones as another promising young centrehalf.

Play at home against A. Villa in the third round of the FA Youth Cup : Sat.19th Dec. K.O. 19.00
Thanks, could have been easier as there are lots of weaker teams still in at this stage, but it's a home game that we should win. I think it was Rooney's team in 2002 ish that last took us to the Final and even longer since we've won it.
It looks like Chelsea are the team to beat , they won 7-2 away to Southampton today.
