Everton Youth Teams Thread

surprised by this, thought he'd do a lundstram and go out to make a name for himself at a new club and try work his way back up the leagues.

There was an interesting comment today about Chelsea's large number of Youths on loan. The view was that they saw this as a Business concept rather than development plan. Get in talented youngsters , ship them out on loan , get fees from the loan , if they become 1 st team standard great , but hopefully sell them on to the club who loaned them or someone else for a profit. Liverpool seem to have sold on a few this close season too.
While I dont believe we do anything like Chelsea, it does appear that we rarely let someone 19plus leave for free . Conor Grant to me appears to be in the category of unlikely to make the first team squad , likely to be out on loan , likely to be eventually sold maybe at Championship level.

We have such an exciting crop coming through but think I might be the only one that thinks Evans is by far the most talented.
I love posts like this , they make me think about the many talents our youngsters have! In one sense , I would say Callum Connolly has the MOST talents, can play in every defence position, scores with his right, crosses with his left, scores with his head , defends with his head, gosts into the box etc. But he doesn't have an outrageous talent like Dowell and Evans often demonstrate. Evan's has shown blistering pace at times and a superb ability to get into the box and score goals. I love the training shot the other day of him clipping the ball in with his left foot, then next up was Lavery doing the same with his left , those two could be some combination this season.

I may (likely) be wrong but I thought another reason for Chelsea shipping lots out on loan was to bolster their wage allowance to bring more players in. Sure I read that somewhere...

I'm glad that's not us as Chelsea are a bit of a shameful academy and a lot of their players I'd welcome with open arms into our academy.

i can see that from evertons point of view but dont know what grant gets out of it. he could move to a championship club now for a small development fee on a permanent move rather than go on loan to one for the season.

Great to see the younger lads committing their futures to us ... Just hope Tom Davies signs a contract soon too!!

U21 team coming over to Ireland to play the the old milk cup... Hope to make it up and see them ! A meet and greet with unsy, sheedy etc and the team had been arranged for Friday nite in Belfast, but unfortunately that had to be cancelled :(

That's exactly what it is. They knew those short term cost control regulations were coming and this was how they found a way around it. Buy a ton of young players give them decent wages and you grow the wage bill. Any that are good but not good enough to start can be sold on for more revenue to throw at the wage bill.

I like Pennington as he's no nonsense so fine with that. Browning is very quickly being overtook and not by just the one defender. Time is running out for him to have a future here.

Harsh on Browning that, wasn't he injured all of last season? Hard to tell where he's at to be honest.

Yeh he was injured I'm not doing him an injustice here but he's 22 and I'd say he's behind Galloway, Pennington and Holgate at CB and I think Kenny and Connolly are better at RB. I like him just think he's going to fade away with us if he doesn't come back strong this season.

Browning is a valuable player to have in your squad in the prem. Against teams like crystal palace wherby year on year Coleman & Baines have to try & deal with wingers whom are quicker & stronger he is a massive asset.
If he plays full back against an out & out winger who relies on pace & power then not many if any will get the better of him.
I think if he comes up against a clever player who uses his head with clever movement then that's when he will struggle until he becomes a lot more experienced.
The positioning & decision making doesn't strike me as coming naturally to him could be wrong as haven't seen anywhere near as much of him as others.
