Everton Youth Teams Thread

...you could get another glimpse of the future this afternoon. Eurosport at 16.30 has England V Portugal U17 semi-final. I think this is Ledson and Kenny's team. Might be worth a watch. Red in the pub yesterday said Kenny has been playing right back and doesn't look very good, Ledson keeps giving the ball away. Weird that they have managed to reach the semi!!

Jealousy mate, no reds in the squad so they have to put down ours

...wasn't sure how many reds are in the squad, think you've just answered that. Their junior games are screened live on their own channel and from what they say, their youngsters are the best around. This doesn't appear the case in reality. I also think a lot of these academy's are packed with talent from across the continent whereas ours is largely from Page Moss.

their deluded mate. ignore them. i never remember seeing liverpool youth teams win much/anything. everton's list of players from the academy far outweighs theirs. funny that ledson has been getting rave reviews for his performance, apart from this whopper you talked to.

When Benitez was in charge they seemed to sign a "European starlet" every week, whilst they were scouring the globe for players it seems we were snapping up all the best local talent.

One name I've not seen mentioned much is Tom Davies. Central mid and England U16 captain.

He has moved into the U18 team, playing against people 2-3 years older and still looked really classy.

In fact of the U16 team who were so dominant earlier this season 5 of them played a part last night in the victory.

BTW most people (myself included) are slightly deluded about how good their youth team players are. I'm sure Swisso has posted how few of the last batch of champions we had are still with us but in my opinion this batch are a much better footballing side. What I really like is that almost all our players are home grown and have been with us for years. Liverpool too have some great prospects but most are bought in at vast expense (they've recently signed one from West Brom for a ridiculous fee). You'll also get RS fans saying our team are grocks whilst they are producing better footballers. Total BS - Rooney was the best technical player of the 00's, Barkley is the best technical English youngster around. Add in the likes of Baxter, Kissock, Rodwell and you can see we are consistently producing technical players.

What was the last side that won it mate? Was it the garbutt/Barkley side?

This is the side from the 2011 final,Barkley was out with his leg break.

  • Everton Yth
  • Davies
  • Browning
  • Garbutt
  • Bidwell
  • Dier
  • Barrow
  • McAleny
  • Donegan
  • Kinsella
  • Forrester
  • Thomas

Nice one mate.
So really we got browning/garbutt coming through and maybe mcaleny. As well as Ross, I'd say that's not to bad considering you can really only ask for 2/3 players from any succesful youth team, although garbutt n browning have only played 20 minutes between them but should get game time next season
